No, this stays in the machine throughout washes too :-)

how does the liquid get out of the container? How does this work? Several washes and liquid still there.

I’m not exactly sure how it works. Mine diminishes after several washes so I know it’s working properly. Mine will last up to 3 months. I love them! I hope that answers your question.
