Is the urn insulated to prevent accidental scalding from contact with the metal?

No the urn gets very hot when in use.

I like to use mugs not cups do you to tilt the mug when putting it under the tap

Rest assured this is a great product to have it fits all types of cups and mugs including latte tall glasses and travel mugs but you can remove the drip tray for those tall mugs I get on great with mine

When it boils does it switch it self off? I want to set up a timer that I want the water to be boiling for example @ 7am

I LEAVE MY WATER CONTAINER ON ALL THE TIME AND IT GOES INTO STANDBY WHEN IT REACHES BOILING POINT
