Style Extra Large Version by Hanafuda Hawaii

I thought these cards had beautiful art work. I like playing with the classic hard cards because I love the feeling of slamming the cards, LOL! But I've been teaching my kids how to play, and these are easier for them to hold, and also the cheat sheets of the different yakus and how many cards to deal are great!! Kinda of expensive, I'd rather pay less than $10.00. These are nice and fun and I would definitely recommend for anyone from beginners to pros! Except Obachans or Ojisans, as they are probably old school and wouldn't want to play with these!Also, I like that the cards have the points on them, and a little mark to say which yaku they belong to.

The cards came on time and I was very happy with the quality. The feel and flexibility is like a regular card deck. Same size too. If you are going camping they’re better for roughing it than the tiny , hard Nintendo version. The artwork is very pretty and it’s easy to tell what they are in this deck(although other Hawaiian decks have Hawaiian flowers and wildlife.The only thing I don’t like is the numbers on the cards. You don’t need them and there are many variations of hanafuda to play where the card values are different. I give them 5 stars for quality, beauty and versatility

I grew up playing Hanafuda with my Aunt back in Hawai'i. I love how large these cards are compared to the original ones. Plus it's great for beginners as it has the values of what cards are worth what as far as points go, as well as the hiki and yaku. I'm satisfied.

The cards themselves, which is basically the most important thing, are very good quality with beautiful artwork. The indicators in the corners of the cards and the added reference cards makes them very useful for teaching Hanafuda games to new players. I was only familiar with Koi-Koi so it was nice to have rules for the Hawaiian game rules with these cards, providing more usage of the deck with a second game to play. As a westerner I grew up with playing cards made of card stock, so as much I love my traditional Handafuda made of plastic, I'm more accustomed to shuffling thinner flexible cards which makes game play easier and more natural for me with this deck.My one complaint and reason for writing this review is the packaging. I have to give credit where credit is due, everything inside the box is wonderful, but I could not for the life of me open the box. No matter how hard or how long I tried, I could not get the box open on either end. Well, I couldn't get it open in a way that would keep it in tact. Basically I had to destroy the box just to get to the cards inside. I'll have to find a new box to store them in to keep them protected while not being used because I had to resort to ripping the box apart that they came in.

I don't know why this game isn't more popular! It is incredible fun and it's super easy to learn and teach friends! The card material is very high quality and the art is crisp and gorgeous. I would highly recommend this set over Japanese sets, as the flower art is very distinguishable in this one and prevents confusion.

Larger playing card format makes it easier to shuffle. Rules/yaku are different than trad hanafuda, but we like the different options. Great product, our 7 year old is hooked!

These are great although a bit of a hassle to play the game with all of the repetitive shuffling. I figure it would be that way with true Hanafuda cards regardless. These are playing card size and material which is nice and familiar. Overall great!
