Size up 1/2 size, no break in required but may make your feet hot.
I don't usually write reviews but found other reviews for this helpful and wanted to share. I followed the advice of many of the other reviews and got 1/2 size bigger than my usual. I also have a wide food and was happy to be able to get a pair of wide shoes for hiking.I wore these for a few hours around my house just to see what I thought and they were comfy. I then went on a 5 mile hike this morning. It was a solid hike with about 700 feet of elevation gain here in the Colorado mountains. Like others have said there was zero break in period and no rubs or uncomfortable spots. One thing I will mention is that these boots seem to have made my feet hotter than normal. Maybe because they are waterproof? It isn't a total deal breaker for me though I doubt I will be able to wear these in the dead of summer when it is 100 degrees out.Overall, if you are looking for a solid hiking boot that comes in a variety of sizes, needs no break in period and can deal with possibly having warm feet I would absolutely go for these hiking boots.

Excellent boots but my foot or the material of this shoe changed, get wide if necessary!
I think as we get older maybe our feet get wider? I have worn these merrell boots in various colors over the years but always the same size, regular width. Well, this time, the regular ones squished the heck out of my feet! The wide ones work perfect. I am a size 8 or 8.5 and an 8.5 wide fit me perfect. I wear thick wool socks with these and have no issues with bruising or blisters. Excellent grip, feels like walking on clouds, the colors are pretty, they are cute enough to wear to work (depending on your job), and they are incredibly durable. One pair typically lasts me 2-3 years but I am ROUGH on my boots. I walk through streams, mud, kick doors open, etc. These are great boots.I originally purchased this color grey and teal in 8 wide since they didn't have it in 8.5 but it was a tiny bit too small in the toes with my thick socks on, so I went up to 8.5 and they fit perfect. The falcon color is actually very pretty in person so I'm not mad about it.

Overall comfortable
I've grown up in the mountains and hiked my whole life. I have always been a trail runner gal. I'm planning to summit Mt St Helens soon and it was strongly recommended to *not* wear tall runners, so I decided to purchase these hiking boots for the trail. I've worn them several times now to break them in. They're very comfortable on the ankles (I have a wide foot, but narrow ankles). The toe box is my only critique. They are very comfortable on my toes going up and on flat ground, but when going downhill my foot slips into the toe box and my toes end up crowding. I did a 7 hour hike and did fine until the last 2 hours going down hill where I developed 2 mild toe blisters. I'll have to keep tweaking the lacing tightness and see if I can prevent the foot slipping. I will say, my ankles have never felt so supported on a hike in my life, and I really like that added support on my long hikes.

Not a wide toe box
I like everything about this boot but couldn’t keep it because it doesn’t have a wide enough toe box for my toes. It’s very comfy and I could tell it wouldn’t require any breaking in time. I loved the colors and was so bummed the toe box isn’t wider. I’d classify this as a regular fit that mat even work for someone with a slightly narrower foot if they use thick socks. I did try the wide with but it was too wide for the rest of my foot, and the front was still on the narrow side.

Its not for me - high top boots
I was really excited to purchase my first pair of hiking boots, especially after being recommended this brand and model. When they arrived, everything seemed perfect—comfortable fit, great design, and they felt solid on my first hike. That initial outing went smoothly with no issues at all. However, things changed on the second day. About four miles into the hike, I started experiencing sharp pain where the top of the boot rubbed against the bone just above my ankle. It became extremely uncomfortable, but I was too far in to turn back. I had no choice but to push through the pain for the remainder of the hike, which lasted nearly four hours.Still hopeful, I decided to give the boots another try the next day on a 6.5-mile hike. Unfortunately, the same issue occurred, and by the end, I was practically dragging my leg back to the car. I even tried adding an extra sock for cushioning, but it didn’t help and made things worse. To be clear, the boots themselves are well-made and initially felt very comfortable. But the pressure on that specific part of my ankle has made them unwearable for me. I don’t know if returns are possible after use, but I can’t wear these boots again. I’m really disappointed, as I had high hopes for them.

One year, four continents: BEST hiking boots!!
I got these a year ago and have worn them in Peru hiking Machu Picchu, Iceland glacier trekking in the snowy/icy winter, Malaysian Borneo rainforest trekking, and in northern Virginia hitting local trails.I LOVE them. They kept my feet cool in the heat, warm in the cold, and dry. They have excellent traction and support. Zero break-in needed. They’re decently light, do not feel clunky like other brands, and are even comfortable for long haul flights (30 hours). I always size up 1/2 for boots and sneakers to accommodate socks, and that was perfect. Can’t recommend these more highly! (And, I bought them because they were the #1 pick on a gear review website.)

Excellent affordable option
These hiking boots are amazing, I bought them for a hike and were great, very comfortable and I felt could walk with security for my ankles. The size fit perfectly for me, I am 37 and bought 37 and were great, even had some space for thick socks. As usual due to the size and style they are a bit heavy compared to other shoes, however when wearing them didn't feel heavy. I recommend it 100%. The price and quality match perfectly.

Really like them!
These boots were comfy right out of the box. Thank you to all the reviews that recommended ordering a half size bigger. I usually wear an 8.5 but ordered the 9. It's perfect. I have some wiggle room for my toes. The laces that came with them are very long. I think they could be 3-4 inches shorter. Overall, nice looking boots at a good price.
