Fluval ProVac Powered Aquarium Gravel Cleaner

I was a bit apprehensive about purchasing this as I had bought a similar one from an unknown brand some time ago, that was a lot cheaper and was massively disappointed with the suction power and filtering capabilities as it still spat out a load of dirt back into the tank no matter how often I was cleaning the filters. But with not finding anything else that looked like it was up to the job, not wanting to revert to more often water changes/cleaning and also as I have bought many other products from this brand and not had any issues I thought I would give it a go even though I thought it was a bit pricey.I am happy to say that it's been a breath of fresh air (or water!). The suction power on this is great and the filter catches all the dirt in the water/gravel and just leaves clean water pumped out into the tank. You do have to clean the filters regularly but that just means it's getting plenty of dirt out of the water and only leaving the good stuff behind.The LED light wasn't really a selling point for me but has been good in allowing you to see more easily where you are picking things up when it starts to get a bit murky and the large head makes it quicker and easier to get the job done.I haven't used it to replace any water yet but it looks simple enough to do, i.e. remove the filter container and attach a hose pipe to the outgoing pipe instead of pumping the water into a bucket or container.If you have reservations about this due to the price I would recommend giving it a go as I have been pleasantly surprised and your Fish will thank you. I could swear I have seen my fish smiling more often since using this!

Good quality, you can feel it's a sturdy, well built tool, and does the job, as the debris on the filter demonstrated. Filters easily rinsed under the tap, but reading other reviews before buying, I ordered extra, which I don't currently need.Only gripe is the lack of instructions. Basics are laid out not in English, then French etc, but step 1 in each language, then step 2. Quite confusing and hard to find specifics.Can't see how it can empty out water, can't find anywhere to attach a pipe and nothing in instruction 'manual'. Perhaps that's just meEDIT Yes, it was me! There's an adaptor which goes on the inlet behind/ inside the filter assembly. Unclip the filter cartridge, there it is. Just need the hose, now, meanwhile a £3.99 syphon from the local aquatics shop is adequate for emptying

Purchased this item after previously purchasing a cheap gravel vac (around £15) The cheap version has a little collection bag on the side and worked OK although the bag had a tendency to fall off. After approx 3 months the unit totally failed.I have 2 x 260ltr tanks so wanted a replacement ASAP, so decided to bite the bullet and purchase this more expensive Fluval vac at around £50. It arrived the next day well packaged and worked straight from the box, feels robust and very easy to use.I have given 5 star for value for money as it works really well, however I was only going to give 4 stars as it does seem expensive but then I couldn't justify that as it does work very well.The only negative comment I have is that I find the On/Off switch a little fiddly.

A mixed experience with this. I spent I lot of time looking at all the fish tank vacuums available. I still think this is the best available however it has lots of niggles. For some reason they have designed it to bypass some flow past the LED light, I suppose as the filter gets blocked this relieves pressure but you just end up circulating flow near the strainer. The strainer is too fine. The impeller looks to be designed to pump larger solids and it would help to have a more open strainer option which would carry larger leaf matter. The filter housing seems to have more flimsy parts than nessery but it works and certainly collects on lot, when filter is getting full water sprays out all over the place. For some reason the switch on mine requires 2 presses to successfully start or stop. Cable length is ideal.It's a useful product and I do continue to use it but feel it wouldn't take much to be so much better.

I remove the filter and attach, 13mm ID x 16mm OD flexible hose, purchased from Amazon (the one supplied is too rigid) This set up works perfectly for me, I only have 2 small fish tanks so I use the ProVac to remove water and filter the substrate straight into a bowl. I cannot use the 'syphoning' system because of where my tanks are.

The Pro vac is overpriced feels cheap when using and not sturdy. The power button is of poor quality and takes multiple presses to get it to work. Filter constantly clogs and stops the flow. The noise inside the tank terrified my fish. I have a 10 inch long flag tail that the leapt from the tank as soon as I switched it on. There was hardly any suction at all and totally inefficient in the task that it is supposed to achieve very disappointed as normally every Fluval product I have brought has been excellent and great quality. I shall be returning the Pro vac along with the extra filters I purchased which were again overpriced for what they are very disappointed. Fluval you can do better than this! I would not have given this product any stars but the way Amazon works I had to give it one star to submit my review.

I was a bit skeptical about ordering this from some of the reviews, has a long lead, suction wouldn't be overly powerful but does what it needs too I have a 250 litre tank and I have sand in the tank It does what I wanted it to do lifted all the fish waste from the bottom within few minutes, really handy put together didn't lift much sand but lifted all the waste does what it is supposed too, only issue I thought it was a little dear but you get what you pay for

I have bought other tank vacuums which turned out to be disastrous, water everywhere, too many parts that didn’t work and they were more expensive than the ProVac. The ProVac has made cleaning my 5 gal Betta tank a breeze. I can’t believe how much stuff the ProVac traps in the filter. After vacuuming, I do a 50% water change and the tank is pristine again with great water values. Love the ProVac.

Great item, easy to use, works really well however I recieved it with a different country power plug even when bought from AU Amazon.
