Good quality dry beans
For some reason, it’s been hard to find navy beans in Michigan, even though we grow tons of them. These beans are very clean and delicious. I didn’t have to remove any debris from the beans. I use them for bean soup. I’m so glad I found them. Bean soup just isn’t as good when it’s made with Great Northern beans; navy beans are much smaller and more flavorful. I soaked them overnight and made the soup in a pressure cooker. It took 30 minutes for it to cook. The smell filled the house, and we couldn’t wait to enjoy the soup.

Finally found a reliable source!
No grocery stores in our major area have carried navy beans for over a year. Nothing better than a Honeybaked ham bone (either leftover from holiday meals or purchased frozen from the Honeybaked stores) used to make ham and navy bean soup or occasional ham and split pea soup. Easy to order a few one pound packages of navy beans for a good price to keep in the pantry for whenever the craving hits ! Easy to soak, few need to sort out, great navy bean soup!

My preparation method involves a thorough cleaning process: first rinsing, then boil for 2 minutes turn off heat, soak for an hour, draining, and rinsing again before cooking. These beans were a delightful departure from my usual pinto beans, offering a refreshing change to my typical recipe. To enhance the soup's flavor profile, I incorporated smoky flavoring and added ham, which my husband particularly enjoys. The result was a hearty, flavorful dish that transformed these beans into a memorable meal.
