Q: Are these easy to fit or will I need a plumber?

shouldn't need a plumber. the valve tops (where you open or shut the radiator, or maybe already has a thermostat control) unscrews. the honeywell screws back in its place. the only issue is if the union is set to close to the radiator then you will either need good DIY skills or a plumber. mine were ok but one was only just but took a little light persuasion. hope this works for you as its a really good system

I have found that they work really well and have them on 8 radiators in the house. I also purchased the central heating relay to attach to the combi boiler in place of a thermostat and it controls the heat great. Later I also purchased the remote gateway and can now control the zones through an app on my phone. Which is great even when you are in the house and feel like you want it a little warmer in a zone. I just set it temporarily and after 22.30 it goes back to normal. I haven't checked heating bills but I feel like this is a much better way of controlling your heating.

They will work without a central controller but won’t have any time programs or remote control ability (including from any phone or smart device). Standalone you will basically be able to set individual temperature on radiators but that won’t set any demand for the boiler, you will need an external timer and master thermostat for that.
