I have returned this corkscrew. The main issue is that the instruction manual states that it must not be used on synthetic corks. As more and more wine producers use synthetic corks or screw top bottles its somewhat redundant.The next issue I have with the product is its presentation, the box is elaborate with gold foil sides and inscription suggesting French origin when in fact its made in China. The corkscrew has a antique gold/brass finish, which to my taste makes it look rather chintzy if not tacky, but that's only my opinion. Its saving grace is that for the price its not badly made and does come with a years warranty. As I did not use it I cannot comment on how it opens wine bottles, but from its construction I would think its up for the job.

Avoid
Have been using this type of corkscrew for many years so wasn't expecting any problems. Took it out the box. Made to open a bottle of wine. Screw went straight into the cork. Pulled it up and it came straight out again. Then the corkscrew mechanism broke completely. Maybe I got unlucky and I just got a bad one. Then again, maybe you will too. Avoid.UPDATE I've never updated a review before. My initial review was one star. But I got a message from Plaisir de le Cave offering me a full refund AND a replacement, free of charge, which is pretty remarkable customer service. So five stars for the customer service. Here's hoping the replacement corkscrew works - but I can't really complain as it's effectively free.

Wine opener
It's a nice looking item. I've had a similar one and had about 10 years out of that. Thought this was an updated and upgraded version but the mechanism stopped working just after Christmas (less than a year of use) which was rather disappointing. Would have got a better rating had it lasted, what i would consider, a reasonable amount of time.

Sleek and well presented
Very happy with the packaging and what a high quality fell you get right from the start. It’s been the perfect gift and having read previous reviews I decided to test the corkscrew before giving it away as a gift. I’m happy to say that there have been no issues...okay only two bottles were tested but having used products like this before this will be a great gift.

Not quite up to task
Bought this after having a similar one for nearly 10yrs. Unfortunately this one is not quite as good, more often than not it ends up pushing the cork into the bottle as the screw lost its sharpness very quickly
