Remote extended for Virgin V+ box? Try this.
I needed a remote control extender for my Samsung Virgin+ box but not one that would interfere with the Wi-Fi installation (2.5G) and, as I live in a city, one that would not suddenly control the next door neighbour's tele or vice-versa! I had my doubts about the Marmitek but I spoke to the sales people at Keene (they were very helpful) and was reassured that it would work fine. It does. (using a lower frequency - 433MHz.) I have it installed in a three storey brick built house with the receiver on the ground floor and the transmitter two floors above. I have added the Marmitek IR Eye universal IR extender cable Marmitek IR Eye universal IR extender cable to the Marmitek receiver (very easy - just plug it in) so as not to have the problem of finding somewhere to sit the receiver so that it can "see" the front of the V+ box and apart from the usual playing around with the "IR eyes" to find the best spot on the V+ box for it to work, everything was very easy. It really was a case of out of the box, set up and it was running.(The manufacturer claims a 100m. operating distance but does add the condition that this is in "ideal" circumstances - for that I read "no buildings or floors in the way.) As the Marmitek IR Eye universal IR extender cable has two "eyes" Marmitek IR Eye universal IR extender cable , I also tried contolling other boxes I have (with the associated remote controller for each) and have so far found that all the equipment I have, TV, Sat. receiver (I cannot speak for a Sky Rx - but I do not see why it would not work), amp, everything seems to work - including an older version (Scientific Atlanta) Virgin+ box. Also seems to work fine with a "universal remote". The product itself is two small pyramids which look quite stylish and do not take up much room. Usual problem of locating them near a mains socket for the power supplies (supplied with the unit) but the IR extender cable is quite long, so that helps with that problem. BTW: This is not a "Video Sender". It DOES NOT allow you to see the picture on another TV in a different room!

Excellent
I am more than pleased with this product. Reasons: - Simple - 2 items plus 2 power plugs - All that is needed to start using it is to place 1 in front of the device you wish to remotely control and the 2nd you place in the room in which you wish to watch the controlled device from and plug each to a power source. Yes, it's that simple. - Good response - the "delay" on responding to my remote's commands are non existent (or imperceptible, if existent). I have it set it up by putting 1 in my living room and 1 in my bedroom (they are 1 floor and 2 doors apart). - When not in use it 'turns itself off' - there is no power button, so when I need to use it all I have to do is point the remote and push a button. This also means that it doesn't waste energy. REMEMBER: In order for this product to work properly you need to have a cable connected to your sky box and the TV in the other room you wish to watch it from. Also, you have to set up your sky box (which can be easily done by looking for how to on youtube) to send its signal to a specific channel on the TV in the other room and add that channel to the TV receiving the signal (which can be done by going to menu and adding a channel, reading the manual or looking on youtube). This marvelous little thing does not send image and sound via radio waves, so if you don't have a cable connecting your sky box (or other device) to the TV you want (so you can receive the image and sound) you will NOT be able to watch sky in another room using only this item. This wonderful invention only controls skybox from a different room without needing cables between the signal sender and receiver.

Not quite perfect
The product consists of a sender, a receiver and two power supplies. The pyramid-shaped units are operated by infra-red signals from your remote controls but they communicate with each other on a radio frequency. They are easy to set up but not foolproof. The sender needs to be in a natural position, where you can point your remote control as you would normally. To do this, you need a power supply in the approriate part of the room. The receiver has to be in line of sight of the equipment you wish to control. You obviously need to have a piece of furniture on which you can place it and another power supply. On top of that, the radio signal has to travel from one pyramid to the other. In our house, it only has to get through a wooden floor and ceiling. I suggest you avoid placing either pyramid directly on or close to another piece of equipment. We have a brand-new Virgin V+ box and the pyramids work perfectly. My wife needs to lie down upstairs a lot, so the Powermid makes our lives so much easier. Don't forget that you do need to get the TV signal from the V+ box (or whatever) to the alternative room. The new V+ has no "RF out", so I use an old VCR to convert the signal via the scart socket. And of course you can't send HD pictures to another room. The only drawback I have found is that the receiving pyramid is not compatible with some remote control sockets that I bought from ALDI. I'm working on it.

Virtually useless
I have tried for 8 months to get it to work properly. Moving transmitter & receiver to different postions etc, cleaning remote control buttons but nothing helps. I have to press remote 3 or more times to get a response and red light on receiver comes on & off intermitantly when not even touching remote. My daughter loaned me hers (different make) when she was on holiday and it worked pefectly. Contacted Marmartek (states 2 year warranty) with above info and all they said was to contact Amazon but return window closed.

Does what is says it does
Does exactly what it says it does. I got this when the IR over HDMI transmitter that had worked for years just stopped working after a TV software upgrade. I am not very tech savvy so I was worried if this would work but the product took seconds to set up and it transmits IR signal through 2 walls over 10m to a sky Q and an AV box in a cupboard.

LCD TV interference
Having read reviews of this item hopes were high and indeed the unit operated all audio and satellite equipment located in a cupboard perfectly well, until the TV was switched on! At which point the led in both transmitter and receiver came on and all AV equipment control was lost. Researching the problem identified that many LCD based TV screens (don't know about plasma and led based) emit significant infra red noise that interferes with IR extenders. The lesson is while this is a good device it may not work as advertised. I'm experimenting with some shielding around the receiver with some success (using a christmas card to limit stray IR light) but the end result may not be pretty. Marmitek PowerMid XL infrared extender set On a general note the construction is elegant and well finished with grippy rubberised feet. The power supplies are fairly standard low power consumption items with about a meter of cable making placement a fairly discrete affair and setup was as simple as described - plug in both items and make sure controlled equipment can see the transmitter. Job done.

Simple, effective way to extend IR remote controls through walls!
UPDATED TO REFLECT PROBLEM SOLVED - READ THIS IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS WITH YOUR PYRAMIDS! I kept getting random behaviour with channels changing randomly, the red light indicating constant operation, etc. The sending pyramid was right in front of my TV (Sony LCD) and it looks like the TV was activating the pyramid. I have now moved the sending pyramid off to one side away from the screen and it works perfectly. It looks like other people have had the same problem and it has taken me ages to fix but definitely confirms my 5* review!!! This has to one of the simplest, most useful gadgets you can buy! My cable box, amp and DVD player are inside a wooden cabinet and you can't use an infrared remote control through wooden doors. Cue the PowerMid XL extender! Simply place one pyramid somewhere near your TV (where it will pick up your remote control signals) and the other inside the cabinet and plug both into the mains. There are no cables other than the two mains cables and absolutely no setup to do! When you use your remote control, the first pyramid picks up the IR signal and transmits is using radio to the other, which repeats the same signals so that they can be picked up by your devices. Remarkably simple to use, zero setup and much cheaper than other solutions I have seen!

Great item
This item was delivered in double quick time (the very next day) after ordering. One item was placed downstairs and the other upstairs in the bedroom. The upstairs one was positioned to the side of the television it was going to control and plugged into the mains, downstairs the other one was placed on the floor in front of the SKY+HD box with the unit facing the sensor at the centre of the box. When operating the remote upstairs the channels on the SKY box everything worked as expected. When I came downstairs and used the remote to operate the SKY box it would not work until I had moved the Marmitek unit away from the line of sight with the sensor on the SKY box. This was a nuisance, so I decided to order the extender cable that plugs into the back of the main unit downstairs. When this arrived the unit was put out of sight, the extender cable plugged in, and one of the 'eyes' positioned below the SKY sensor. To test everything was working I went upstairs and operated the remote as normal and everything worked perfectly, then came downstairs and tried the remote directly on the SKY box and this also worked perfectly. In other words if you want to use the remote without moving the downstairs unit and not switching it off I would recommend getting the extender cable. It is always probable to forget to switch the downstairs unit on before going to bed, and then have to come down to switch it on, which (to me) defeats the object. As a result I can thoroughly recommend this unit and especially with the extender cable which comes with two magic eyes so that it can be used with another remotely controlled item. At the end of the day this is a very versatile unit that does exactly what it says, and without any major problems. All I will say is check the prices and availability of these items, as they do vary in both price and delivery charges.

Klockren funktion.
Fungerar alldeles utmärkt (som förväntat 🙂). (Styr CD-spelaren i vardagsrummet från sovrummet, som skickar ljudet via en bluetooth-sändare (Soomfon) till sovrummets Fosi-förstärkare).
