Rosewood Naturals Meadow Menu, Rabbit Food, 2kg

I keep rabbits and guinea pigs - I used to breed them, but now just keep a few of each as pets- and so I’ve always tried to keep abreast of what is and isn’t an ideal diet for them. Over the years this seems to be a bit of a moving target, but in recent years it became clear to me that a lot of pet rabbits -including my own- were getting too ‘rich’ a diet. You see a lot in the news about the high proportion of overweight dogs and cats and finally people seem to be highlighting what an issue this is with rabbits. A lot of authorities are now suggesting that manufactured food should only make up 10% of a rabbits daily rations, but let be honest for most rabbits this is going to be nearer to 80%! Also I’m always nervous about whether my pets are genuinely eating enough hay (I know other people whose pets just don’t ‘like’ hay- but more on this later!) and whilst they do get a reasonable amount of fresh veg each week I must admit that I don’t always get round to giving them as much as I possible should each day. The truth is with families and work most pet owners are looking for convenience, so like it or not most pets are going to be fed more manufactured food than the ‘experts’ would like. So it great to see someone has actually made a food that’s much healthier than all the others I’ve ever come across!I first saw this food at a Pet Show and reading the box it seemed like an ideal diet:1) it’s grain-free (processed grains are too rich in energy and a rabbits digestive system is designed for eating less processed foods)2) It’s made from 70% dried grasses (in other words hay) and meadow plants, so it’s easier to ensure pets are eating enough hay/plant based food each day.3) It’s made from only 100% natural ingredients and has no GM (I believe that 0ver 90% of the worlds soya flour is now GM and soya flour is used in many manufactured rabbit foods)4) It’s not a muesli! Very important to stop selective feeding.5) It’s got over 40 different plant based ingredients- The makers say this means pets get a better mixture of plant based nutrients like antioxidants etc. Sounds like a good thing with all your read about this with human health.I was aware of Rosewoods treats but wanted to check what people were saying about their food online. Not a lot (to be fair it was apparently only launched this summer), but The Hay Experts were selling it which I always take as a good sign. So I ordered some back in September and my rabbits (and guineas) have been on it since then. As I’d expected some of them were a bit cautious at first- but I think this just highlights the problem with other foods and also why some pets don’t want to eat hay: too many prepared foods are like human processed foods in that they contain processed starch, sugar and are too easy to eat. Like a MacDonald’s and Coke they are designed to get the rabbits ‘hooked’! I was feeding what I had regarded to be a ‘good’ pellet food, but most of my lot were still woofing it down like dogs. Surely not a good thing as rabbits should be eating food gradually through the day (grazing) rather than stuffing their little bellies in one sitting! The Meadow Menu is very hard, so my rabbits were taking more time to eat it. Over the weeks they have got used to it- as their bowls are empty by the evening, but I have noticed that they eat it gradually through the day. It’s a little dearer than their previous food, but I do find I’m measuring it our properly and wasting almost nothing, so probably works out about the same each month. So overall a big thumbs up and I’d recommend to anyone that they try their rabbits or guineas on this.

Our rabbit prefers other hay food we get (something called Supreme Petfood Science Selective Adult Rabbit).We used to get this on subscription but have stopped now as the other food was better. He used to leave this food for ages but the other one he loved.

I've been waiting for a food like this for ages: 100% natural and full of great ingredients! I can also see that the absence of cereal grains (that make up a lot of almost all other foods) is a real plus point with a lot of rabbits. I've got two rabbits that were being fed on a variety of non-muesli foods, but I was always aware that they were essential very basic in their composition. In the wild rabbits would get to graze on a wide variety of plants, so surely this would be better for then as pets? Plus I've always like this brand of treats.So to the food itself: it a hard pellet with an unusual shape that looks like it will be good for their teeth. I won't go on about the features and benefits the producer claims as you'll see this on the products page and as far as I can see nutritionally this appears to tick all the boxes. But the key issue was would my rabbits eat it? I've started them on it around 4 weeks ago. As suggested for the first couple of weeks I mixed it in to their other food a bit at a time. For the first few days the meadow menu was being left, but then it appeared that they were at least trying it. 4 Weeks later they love it. I've also ensured that I've only put in their bowl what the packet suggests and now it's gone every day. So at £1.50 per rabbit per week it's good value for what appears to be a great food. We've also tried their other two foods for our guinea pigs and chinchillas (reviewed separately).

this stuff is awesome, its all natural, basically made of squashed up flowers and hay :-) My bunnies love it, i was trying to introduce the food gradually, but as soon as i put a few of these in the bowl my bunnies stopped eating the other stuff.whats really nice is looking at the ingredients and knowing what they are, its not crammed full of junk and fillers. The pellets are a little bit bigger than usual but it helps with their teeth and helps slow down their eating so they don't just empty the bowl.ok so it maybe a little bit more expensive but if you want your bunnies to have a good food then its worth it. will defiantly be keeping my two on this stuff.

excellent product high fibre and full of natural grasses/herbs etc. However, extremely expensve so I use as a treat only

I used to love this product but I can’t justify spending £9 on it. It used to be 7.25, then they raised the price so you had to get a subscription to pay that, and now they’ve raised the price again. I just can’t justify spending this amount on pellets every month. I’ll be looking for an alternative without the malicious price tag

I really like Rosewood as most of their rabbit food is 100% natural and this is no different. It's packed full of little shaped pieces which would be ideal if you have a greedy rabbit, as they take a little longer to chew. My rabbits were in the box as soon as I opened it. They can be quite fussy at times and have been known get bored of nuggets after a day or two, when I've tried different varieties. These however, are being scoffed! I have one rabbit who has had soft poo issues previously and this only stopped when I changed their nuggets to Excel light. For this reason I won't be completely changing to these. Instead, I'm adding a few of them with their usual nuggets but reducing the amount they get. It means both nuggets will last a bit longer, which is good as these as a little expensive for the amount you get. I'd definitely recommend these and will be buying again. 5* from 2 happy bunnies.
