Very pleased! Works great, simple setup
I bought these to extend wifi via AiMesh with my ASUS RT-AX86U router, which does really well already, but has difficulty getting strong signals to my garage and sunroom because they are add-ons and are outside the original house walls which have the aluminum backed insulation boards = almost no signals get in or out. I placed one device in garage and sunroom at the closest wall outlet possible. The router signal was weak, but present. Setup is simple, but not necessarily straightforward. I recommend using Asus router app with AiMesh if you can. Plug device in wall VERY near router. Go through setup instructions. Once synced, move to desired location outlet and wait/watch for proper signal acquisition with lighting. ***I will note here that even when testing the devices throughout the house on other outlets where router signal was strong, they didn't want to connect. KEEP TRYING!! I had to unplug and plug several times. Now, I have strong seamless signal in all areas and even 20-40 ft beyond house walls. Pros: -relatively simple setup -good price -plugs directly in wall outlet (no cords) -very good wifi extension range -seamless transition throughout areas with AiMesh Cons: -once plugged in, no room for 2nd plug in wall outlet -devices pair well originally when very close to router, but then seemingly have difficulty reaquiring signal when moved elsewhere, even where signal is strong (keep trying!)

works seamlessly for me
I paired this with an ASUS AX6000 RT-AX88U from 2022, and it completely resolved my connectivity issues. It doesn't create a new SSID if you configure the AiMesh mode, it just makes the original SSID available in more areas and quietly bounces your signal to the main unit. I'm told you get lower bandwidth overall, but unless you have insanely fast internet, you'll probably never notice. My router is on the top floor, centrally placed, and this extender is on the main level, at the back of the house, with nearly line-of-sight so the signal is strong between them. With the extender, not only does my basement get great connectivity now, but so does my backyard. I can go anywhere in the house or backyard seamlessly listening on my phone to live content, and experience no drops as it would hop to mobile connectivity; it just stays on the wifi the whole time. If I recall correctly, connecting it took a few minutes, and basically demanded I install the ASUS Router app. But with that done, I was able to get the extender connected up and everything else is totally smooth. I highly recommend this unit and may eventually get another to extend the reach off the front of my house.

Good extender if….
This extender is a good choice if you have an ASUS brand router to extend, and you prefer mounting it in a power outlet. If you have another brand access point main router, I would not choose this extender. Although it has good rage, it is a little difficult to set up in my opinion. (I have a set up tip later.) It is a little expensive, and may not work consistently with other brand routers in my experiences. I will explain those issues later. For non ASUS routers, I have had better experiences with the inexpensive TP-Link RE315, or if you want better performance, the RE715x. If you want to extend an ASUS router, I would suggest buying another ASUS router and using it in a mesh configuration for the same price as this extender. (Like the RT-AX58U) The second router will have better range, better specs and have support for a guest network. If you want to set up an ASUS AI Mesh configuration and prefer to use a power outlet, this extender is your only option. Once set up correctly, this extender has been solid for me. It is configured by logging into your main ASUS router from either a web browser or the ASUS router app. No account sign up is needed. Both work good. The app is easier to use. The web browser has other options not available in the app. Both the access point and extender are configured through the access point main router including firmware updates and all the settings. No further need to log into the extender. Now the not so good. This extender does not extend a guest network if you have one set up. To login to the extender, there is an ASUS “extender” app (as opposed to the ASUS “router” app) When I purchased this extender, the “extender” app constantly crashed. ASUS recently updated the app after ignoring it for a few years and it may work better now. I had to use a web browser for initial login. (You can also use the “router” app, which did not crash.) If you have a different brand main router, log into the ASUS extender and search for your wireless network. Join the network using your wireless password. The extender should connect and extend your network. This has not been consistent with non ASUS routers for me and the connection drops for short periods sometimes in my experience. If you have an ASUS main router, my big tip is to connect the extender with an Ethernet cable to the access point router. (Only if it is an ASUS router.) Trying to set up the extender wirelessly was hit or miss to say the least. Basically, you log into your ASUS main router, go into the network map and add an AI Mesh extender by searching for it. (Follow the instructions supplied with the extender.) I definitely suggest using the Ethernet cable for initial set up. Use the same WiFi SSID for all the signals except the guest network if you have one or turn on smart connect. After set up, you can disconnect the cable and place the extender anywhere it can reach a signal and it will automatically set up the WiFi mesh. All mesh routers, extenders, clients, and their traffic, is monitored and configured through the access point. Very nice.

complete incompetent garbage
from the top: I was connecting this as a repeater, not to an AI mesh router. this is how that went: it connected right up but I couldn't access the settings using the unclear useless instructions I finally did so consulting chatgpt ai which gave me the access address plus the username and PW that asus doesn't supply that you need if you are setting it up using the phone app, which is, by the way, admin and admin, but it's not published anywhere on the device, nor in the instructions! chat gpt isn't the greatest either so that took me hours. at 1 point, I went to the Asus website and downloaded the router finder thing for Windows and ran it. The app found the equipment but then I couldn't access the settings because the app said the router was on a different subnet mask than my computer. but i checked and they were the same! Eventually, by hook and crook, I got access to it's page, initially trying that app one more time which mysteriously worked for a change and then i went to the settings and changed them , turning on security, etc. I changed it's 2.4g and 5G settings to network name and my passcode. I thought all was fine, except this POS doesn't stay connected to the network no way, no how whether it's 2 feet from my network hum of 20 feet. once connected, unplugging and plugging back in a single wifi security camera from my system will knock it offline and it won't reconnect until I recycle it by unplugging it and replugging it back in, sometimes several times! but then it goes back offline and won't reconnect without unplugging it and plugging it back in again. but that is not all! at one point I tried to push the pin in and factory reset it, which is supposed to take 15 seconds. I held it for 0 seconds BUT NOTHING EVER HAPPENED! the light didn't change to yellow or anything. it just kept blinking blue (connecting mode). the Asus help line stays busy and the video at amazon to click on at amazon for this purchase IS A VIDEO FOR A DIFFERENT BRAND! reminds me fo the last Hewlett Packard printer I bought: total junk, new out of box that never stayed online for more than 1 day and quickly not at all, like within the first week and had non existent support.

No-brainer connection!
I have an existing ASUS RT-AX88U router that has been rock-solid since install a few years back. We needed better coverage in our two- story house. I wanted to use my router’s mesh capability, which is why I chose this. I read previously about issues with installation issues, but decided to rely on my exiting router’s inherent mesh capabilities. I logged into my router and went to AiMesh and let the router do the install by choosing ‘Add AiMesh Node.’ The total installation time was less than 3 minutes. The signal strength is off the charts and the handoff with our portable devices (cellphones) works like a champ. So impressed I ordered an additional unit today. Mark me a happy camper!

Perfect Wi-Fi extension
The ASUS quick instruction sheet is complete. I have a ASUS RT AX55 main router. I used the instructions in the second column to connect the Aimesh wirelessly. This avoids running cable which is better but depending on your setup may be a lot of effort and impossible. Prior to adding the mesh I had walked to rear bedrooms checking the WiFi signal by cell phone. The signal was very weak. I highly recommend that you use the Asus app to help you optimize the Aimesh. After I got the white indicator light on the mesh unit I used the Asus app to look for the Aimesh and install it. The app worked perfectly. Next I moved the unit to a wall jack in my hallway. This location is approximately 25 feet through 3 interior walls from main unit. The app showed a weak aimesh connection. In the app there is an option to optimize the router and Aimesh operation. I used that and the Aimesh went from weak to ok. I also noticed that the main router needed a BIOS update. I did it. I then checked WiFi signal with cell phone and all areas now have full WiFi signal. The furthest distance from the main router is about 50 ft. I have recommendations. Match your aimesh with your router brand, I.e don’t mix brands. The aimesh will probably work without optimizing using the Asus app. Use the app. I recommend this unit.

Great for Asus AI Mesh
I purchased in early 2026 to extend my network. I happen to have Ethernet jacks right next to power outlets so my ideal situation, using an Ethernet back haul, was super easy to do with a 2' Ethernet cable. I had a TP-Link AP instead, and while the setup was simple enough, I discovered the particular model I got had only 100 Mbps speed, which in 2025 seemed incredibly out-dated. This unit was MUCH easier to setup using the Asus router app, and has 1 Gbps Ethernet capability. The one disappointment I've discovered as others is that at least with my "affordable" Asus router this unit will not extend the guest network. Kind of a disappointment since I put all my home automation lights (Kasa) on the guest network and it would have been nice to give them a better signal. AI suggests that the pro model routers may be able to assign this AP to any network but I haven't tried it.

Marginal Benefit for Home WiFi
Received this range extender 5 days ago. My objective was to increase 5G and 6G throughput in my living room. My house is single story 2600 sq ft and the router is the ASUS AXE-7800 located in my home office midway in the house. My first attempt to setup the range extender was to download the ASUS extender app to my android phone. I thought I had successfully completed all the steps but when I logged into the router, the extender did not show up as connected. My second attempt was to connect an ethernet cable between the router and extender in the home office and that worked like a charm. Hands-free except to plug the cable. I had consulted AI on the basic setup and it recommended AI mesh instead of range extender mode. My next step was to determine the optimum placement of the extender. Tried mid-way, near my living room, and near the router. Midway was the best. Then AI helped my optimize the wifi setting in the router and suggested setting up 2.4G, 5G, and 6G channels individually instead of the "auto" defaults. Program the channel numbers and bandwidth separately. With this behind me, now for the results which is why I gave the 3 rating. It did improve the 5G download speed in the living room. I receive 500 Mbps from my ISP. Before the extender, I was getting about 150 Mbps on my laptop approx 30-35' from the router. Now I am getting about 300 Mbps there. For 6G, it did absolutely nothing. Barely get one bar with or without the extender. Having said that, I only get near max download on 6G within a few feet of the router. Might as well use ethernet, so the 6G capability of my router and extender are worthless. So at this point, not sure if I will keep the extender or not as it has provided me marginal benefit for the $80 I spent. But this experience has taught me quite a bit, so do I donate $80 for that learning experience. Well it's the Christmas season. Hmmm.
