Feature‑packed flagship receiver with real power, elite room correction, and unmatched value
UPDATE: If you’re even thinking about upgrading your home theater, stop waiting and buy the RZ70 while it’s around $1700. At this price, it’s the best value in home audio — in my opinion. Nothing else in this class offers this combination of power, features, and room correction. --- Power & Performance This receiver is a monster in the best way. Onkyo didn’t exaggerate the specs — independent bench testing measured 170 watts per channel (2‑channel), which is rare honesty in this industry. Real‑world performance backs it up: • Effortless dynamics even with demanding speakers • Clean, controlled bass without bloat • High headroom for action movies and orchestral peaks • Excellent stereo performance for music listening Whether you’re running a full Atmos setup or a simple 2‑channel system, the RZ70 has more than enough muscle. --- Dirac Live Included (Huge Value) Dirac Live is the star of the show. It’s included at no extra cost, and it transforms the sound: • Tightens bass dramatically • Improves imaging and clarity • Smooths out room‑induced peaks • Makes even modest speakers sound more expensive Room correction is where many receivers cut corners — the RZ70 does the opposite. Dirac alone makes this unit worth the price. --- HDMI 2.1 & Gaming All HDMI inputs are full‑bandwidth 40Gbps HDMI 2.1, which is exactly what you want for: • PS5 • Xbox Series X • PC gaming • 4K/120Hz • VRR, ALLM, HDR10+, Dolby Vision No handshake issues, no dropouts, no nonsense. It just works. --- Features & Connectivity This is one of the most complete feature sets in the entire category: • 11.2 channels with processing for 7.2.4 • Pre‑outs for external amps • Dual subwoofer outputs • Roon Ready • Chromecast, AirPlay 2, Bluetooth, Spotify Connect • IMAX Enhanced • THX Certified • Excellent app control You’re not going to “outgrow” this receiver anytime soon. --- Sound Quality The RZ70 has a clean, neutral sound signature with excellent detail retrieval. Movies have weight and impact, while music playback is surprisingly refined for a receiver in this price range. With Dirac engaged, the soundstage becomes wide, precise, and immersive. --- Build Quality & Size This thing is big — physically larger than most receivers in its class. It’s deep, tall, and heavy. Make sure your cabinet or rack can handle it. The upside is that the chassis feels solid, well‑ventilated, and built to last. --- User Interface & Setup Setup is straightforward: • Clear on‑screen menus • Logical layout • Easy speaker configuration • Dirac calibration is simple if you follow the prompts Even beginners can get great results. --- Value At the current price of $1,700, nothing touches the RZ70. You’re getting: • Flagship‑level power • Full HDMI 2.1 • Dirac Live included • 11 channels • THX certification • A feature set normally found in $2500–$3500 receivers It’s the rare product that feels like you’re getting more than you paid for. --- Bottom Line If you have the space for it, the TX‑RZ70 is one of the best home‑theater purchases you can make. It’s powerful, clean, future‑proof, and loaded with features that genuinely improve your system. At this price, it’s the best deal in home theater.

Great Power, Specs, sounds and price... a unicorn!!!!
I honestly couldn't be happier with this thing. I bought the Onkyo RZ70 to be the main "processor" for my setup, and it’s been rock solid. If you’re debating between this and those super expensive separates/processors, just save the cash and grab this. Audioholics measured it recently and said it had the best test results they've ever seen in this price class, which makes me feel pretty good about the purchase. Zero HDMI Headaches (Finally): This is usually where receivers annoy me, but the RZ70 nails it. My previous Denon was a total nightmare with HDMI handshakes and black screens, but I haven't had a single issue with this Onkyo. I run my PC through it to the TV, and it passes 4K at 120Hz without any flickering or handshake issues. My PS5 VRR works instantly too. Zero problems with my Apple TV and with any Atmos content. It has Chromecast, Spotify, Sonos...literally anything you can throw at a receiver it will accept...and everything just feels buttery smooth. The Audio Setup (It’s a beast): I’m actually using the RCA pre-outs to feed a pair of Hypex Nilai monoblocks for my front Revel F36 towers, while the Onkyo handles the rest (KEF Q250c center, Q150 rears, and Pioneer Atmos modules). The integration is seamless. It has two independent 12V triggers, so my external amps wake up automatically when I turn the receiver on—no weird workarounds needed. Note that I have tried the internal amps for the Revels and they drive with authority! One massive surprise was the internal DAC. I A/B tested it against my Eversolo DMP-A8 (which is a dedicated high-end streamer), and I could barely hear a difference. It’s super clean and detailed. Living with it: I use Roon for music, and the RZ70 pops up immediately as a Roon Ready endpoint. It switches from "Movie mode" to "Hi-Res Music" instantly without glitches. Also, the Web Setup is a lifesaver. Instead of dealing with clunky on-screen menus with the remote, I just opened my laptop browser to rename inputs and tweak settings. Way faster. Dirac Live was also great—it tightened up my dual SVS 3000 Micro subs so the bass is punchy instead of just booming all over the room. The "Meh" Stuff: It’s not perfect. The remote feels kinda cheap and plasticky for a flagship unit, though it works fine. And heads up—this thing is HUGE and heavy. Make sure your shelf is deep enough because it barely fits on mine. But I guess that’s the price you pay for the power. Verdict: Whether you use the internal amps (which are massive) or use it as a pre-amp like I do, it handles everything, it is built like a tank and it is an absolute bargain for the price (you will be looking at $4k at competition, did a TON of research before purchasing) .100% recommended, pull the trigger, you will not regret

Best value AVR available.
I've been listening to CDs and watching movies for about a couple of weeks and have it figured out and dialed in. This is a very nice AVR because of its powerful amplifier and pre-outs. Has all the typical features of most quality AVRs out there. Onkyo did a firmware update that made it possible to power off the unit's amp in 2.1 ch mode and then also all channels off. Powering off a unit's amp in pre-out mode and using as a processor prevents signal interference which translates into better sound from the pre-outs. Less heat generated from the unit as well. This unit runs barely warm with an inaudible fan. Navigating on screen instructions is easy and one can download the manual onto a PC from Onkyo's website which then provides the option to have it printed into a hard copy. The manual doesn't explain things as well as it could have in some areas. Occasionally I had to google something for additional clarity but it didn't take long to figure things out for set-up and tweaking. Onkyo's customer service has been good for me the few times I called prior to purchasing. Haven't called since owning. See Gene DellaSala's review with all his measurement/specs on Audioholics website to understand what a solid piece of equipment this is and what makes it a great value relative to the competition. It's awesome for 2.1 or just 2ch fronts full range without a sub even at high volume. Also great for powering surround speakers for movies in home theatre because of its great amplifier which is why the unit is nearly 50lbs. Gene measured 2 ch. driven at 170w/ch. I would say that for those who prefer not to go the route of separates; this is the AVR to have in the budget range of 2k. The biggest complaint with AVRs is the trade-off between convenience/features and inadequate power. Onkyo does a nice job of compensating with the RZ-70 and with pre-outs one already has a processor for separates. I connected an Outlaw 5000 power amp and everything works as it should and the sound is very good both ways. I'm driving a 5.1 array of old Polk 70 Series ll speakers which are 90dB sensitive but still require A LOT of power to drive them properly without distortion at medium high volume which is all I can tolerate. They sometimes go on sale for under 2k as well. Manufactured in 2023. Happy listening.

Onkyo rz-70 powerhouse
Reference-Grade Powerhouse – Onkyo’s Best Yet! The Onkyo TX-RZ70 is, without question, one of the most impressive AV receivers I’ve ever owned. It’s powerful, flexible, future-proof, and built to anchor a true reference-level home theater or two-channel system. Onkyo absolutely nailed it with this flagship. Setup was a breeze thanks to the intuitive GUI and updated Dirac Live support (including Bass Control!). Once dialed in, the RZ70 brought my Klipsch RF-7 III-based 7.2.4 Atmos system to life with incredible dynamics, pinpoint imaging, and thunderous bass control. It handles action movies like Top Gun: Maverick and Fury with chest-pounding impact, but also excels with music—especially paired with quality DACs and amps. The sound signature is clean, powerful, and dynamic, with an effortless sense of scale. It feeds my Parasound amps (A21+, A31, A52+) beautifully through its high-quality pre-outs. Dialogue clarity, Atmos height effects, and surround envelopment are all dialed in with surgical precision. Connectivity is top-notch with HDMI 2.1 across all inputs, support for 8K, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and every major audio format including Auro-3D and IMAX Enhanced. Add to that Roon Ready status, dual sub outputs, and ESS Sabre DACs onboard, and you have an AVR that checks all the boxes for enthusiasts and audiophiles alike. Build quality is solid, ventilation is well-designed, and the unit has been rock-stable since day one. No HDMI handshake issues, no software glitches, just pure performance. If you're building a serious theater or high-end audio rig and want flagship features without crossing into the $5K+ processor territory, the Onkyo RZ70 is an absolute steal at its price point. I couldn’t be happier with it—this AVR is the real deal.

Failed twice
I was drown to the specs and rave reviews but can honestly say it has been a disaster. 1st one had a catastrophic failure with error codes immediately upon setting up, called Onkyo and was referred back to my retailer for a return/exchange. Was impressed with the 2nd receiver- sounded great, set up 3 zones and loved the ap remote to control it from different rooms. Enjoyed it for all of about 2 weeks, and it all came to an end when 10 minutes into a movie it turned off, upon re-powering up the screen displayed "Requires Ventilation" and shut down. it was not hot, but I finished the movie in another room and went back to find it still had the same issue. Thank goodness it happened inside 30 day return window where i could get a refundfrom amazon... Needless to say I am done with onkyo.

Powerful
My fairly new Denon (x4700, 125 watts) was having problems keeping up with a 7.2 system. I added some height Atmos speakers and it was no longer cutting it. I know I should probably get some separate amps, but read that this thing is a beast and has a lot of power. They weren't wrong, it's brought my speakers to life and movies are pure immersion. Direc Live is amazing. I had to fuss with it for a while (volume too low, then clipping, hard to get that just right). It sounds really good with the correction and I'm a newbie at it. I'm sure there is a lot more that can be tweaked with more knowledge of how to use it. I have 2 subs and think the license for multiple subs is pricey. It's more common to see more than 2 sub pre-outs now, wish it had more if I ever want to add more subs. I've had some connectivity issues (drops) and some weird stuttering when resuming a movie after pausing on Netflix through a FireStick. It's happened a few times and it freaks me out. Turning off HDMI CEC seemed to help. The clarity is great. I have heard new in material that I hadn't noticed before. The Setup is pretty good. The menu is pretty good. I prefer the Denon a bit more, but I'm also used to Onkyo's way. The remote is decent. I think the volume buttons are a little low and is awkward to hold it off center to get to those most used buttons. The backlight is great. This thing is huge and heavy. It barely fit in my cabinet and I thought I had a lot of room. The finish of the front is really nice and it looks great. The back is laid out pretty well. Really straightforward and labeled well. I have all Klipsch speakers running on this system and was disappointed to find that most of my speakers weren't options in the menu. So I had to pick "Klipsch Other". Only 1 pair of speakers RP-8000 II (my rears) were options. RF-7 IIs up front and not an option. Maybe they'll add more with an update. I run a cooling fan and the temps seem pretty decent even when pushing it hard. HDMI CEC is a little aggressive and I had to turn it off. Passthrough works well. The DAC is good. Nice to see them put a decent one in there. The shipping was great; came all the way across the country. It was triple boxed! Thanks Electronics Expo. The price was also great and a good value for the money. I will update review after I have had more time with it! Loving it so far.

Outstanding amp
Outstanding amp. Easy setup, and the Dirac software does a brilliant job of room / speaker correction. Amazingly powerful, giving punch where my older Denon was just meh. Good remote and settings adjustments. Works very will with my TV via eARC. Did I say this unit has power!? The only quibble is the control of Zone2. Not very well thought out (Denon does it better). No numerical volume representation, so control is by ear only. Also, to control it, you've got to push (and hold) the Zone2 button each time you want to adjust the sound (it's actually active for only 8 seconds, then reverts to mains). But this is minor. I'm just thrilled by 99% of what this amp can do. Great connectivity options. Does everything I need, and does it very well. First rate sound quality. Highest recommendations.

It’s worth it I promise….
Best damn receiver I’ve ever owned thus far. Used it to replace a Denon 2 zone receiver. I can definitely tell a difference in the quality of sound coming from this thing. I have it pushing Micca in wall speakers (which I love as well). This was the missing piece to my whole house set up. It running my media room speakers(main zone, patio speakers(zone2), and I will be installing some more Micca in wall speakers in my garage(zone3). I love this receiver. I caught it on sale for $1,799. Get you one you will not regret it.

Vale super a pena.
