Nikon D5300 Digital SLR Camera (24.2 MP, 18-140 mm VR Lens, 3.2 inch LCD) - Black

I've had a D5100 for 2 years (18 to 105 lens) and been pleased with it (in general) but it has irritated me with poor (slow) focusing and slow processing. So where do you stop with these things!!! The spring cashback and a good price from Amazon helped sway me, I bought the D5300 with the 18 to 1400, what a dream, fast and accurate focusing, processing is quick and the brilliant D5100 picture quality is exceeded (enough for me to notice). It is a joy to use in auto or manual it delivers! The lens is spot on, better reach than the 105 and excellent quality (for me). A really good bit of kit, especially with the 140 lens, you probably won't need another.

This is a great camera, offering very high picture quality and all the options and settings creative photographers would need. Offers similar picture quality to the more advanced D7100. You can't go wrong with Nikon DSLRs - they really are the best. My only advice is that if you want this camera, then you should just buy the Nikon D5100 and be happy. Nikon cameras are released on a product cycle of two years, so when a new camera is released, in general terms it's not much more of an improvement on the previous version, it's just marketing. At the price of the D5300 in March 2014, this camera makes absolutely no sense whatsoever - for similar money you could have the much more advanced and sophisticated Nikon D7100 or the older D7000. The only thing the D5300 has that those cameras don't have is an inferior kit lens and an articulated screen which some people think is cool but I think is a design weakness - I just want to snap it off to see how easy it is! This is not a feature found on the pro-DX or FX Nikon cameras. A loose wire from all the twisting and turning and you have an unusable camera. But it's your decision. Just don't be seduced by Nikon marketing. The D5200 is every bit the camera that this D5300 is, but for less money. And don't just take my word for it, photo-enthusiast writer Ken Rockwell would agree.

Amazing. I'm a photographer who loves the versatility of a DSLR, it's lenses and options but am not a photographer who pores over images in post-production or tweaks every last setting on the camera. I need something that functions well, quickly and is easy to understand so when I have the time (and inclination) to amend settings and play about I can without poring over the manual but at other times I can just pick up and shoot and know I'm going to get a good result. This camera does that and more. I upgraded from the D5100 which I thought I didn't really have any complaints about except auto focus speed in low light, this has blown me away. The AF speed is significantly improved on the D5100 and I while I had no complaints about image quality the improvement in the D5300 is noticeable. WiFi and GPS has proved more useful than I had thought and as I always have my phone with me then I don't need to worry about remembering a remote control. The controls are well laid out and easy to master, the screen lovely and bright and clear. I have "tweaked" things far more in the D5300 just because the layout is much easier and the screen display much more intuitive, I can easily understand what the impact of a change I've made to aperture or shutter is on the exposure or image which I never really quite mastered on the D5100. If I don't like it it is simple to revert back. The preset dials and improved layout/larger screen are a joy to use. The 18-140mm is a cracking lens for the kit and price. It has replaced my 18-55DX and 55-200DX which sat alongside my 70-300FX lens.. The AF speed of the 18-140 and the versatility of the lens is far better than the twin kit I got with the D5100. It fills the gap nicely and I often now will just go out with the 18-140 and leave the other lens at home as the loss of the range between 140 and 200 is nothing compared to the hassle of changing lenses. It is fast, surprisingly bright and for general use I can't fault it.

Excellent Camera and a perfect lens to take away with you, the 18-140mm provides plenty of coverage from wide to telephoto to tackle most scenes. Very pleased with inbuilt camera features for this price range.

I bought this camera in time for a holiday to New Zealand, however did not have time to test it properly before travelling. I particularly wanted the GPS feature so that I could geocode photographs and the wifi feature for posting photos on social media. The 18-140mm kit lens is pretty good, though suffers from a significant degree of barrel distortion (not unexpected). I am used to a 18-105mm lens on a D90 and often have to change that to my zoom lens when taking photos. The 140mm lens was however never removed from my camera on the trip - it had sufficient range to prevent me needing to change to my zoom lens, which was very welcome. The omission of a lens hood (costing a few pence) is however rather an insult having spent so much money. The wifi feature seems to work better with Android phones/tablets since setup and security of wifi is much better than with Apple's iOS. It works with iOS, but is over an open connection and a bit slower to set-up. Taking pictures on the camera remotely using the iPhone app was a bit slow and seemed to drain both devices' batteries very quickly. Downloading pictures was however easy and relatively quick. The rotating LCD screen is very handy and seemed robust - it could however benefit from touchscreen controls since, unlike my D90, some settings for manual use have to be applied via the screen menu and this can be slow and frustrating at times. Given that the main reason I bought the camera was for the GPS feature, it is a shame that this hardly ever worked. The camera got a fix on a satellite for about 1% of my photos in 3 weeks of use. I tried updating the GPS firmware but that had no effect, the camera stubbornly refused to record location on any of my photos. Nikon made a half-hearted attempt at troubleshooting after I emailed them but then declared that the camera was likely faulty and I should talk to the retailer; rather unhelpful when I was on holiday on the other side of the world. To Amazon's credit, they have taken the camera back and refunded me the cost as I luckily returned home just before the return period expired. I felt uncomfortable doing so, having used the camera on a holiday, however the camera was faulty and, in my view, execution of the camera's two key selling points is underwhelming for the price. I will wait until Nikon or Canon have ironed out some of the problems before looking again at a similar upgrade. In the meantime, I now have a spare battery I don't need! In future, I will download the manual before committing to a purchase - you get a better idea then of how well the features you want will work for you.

I am very happy with this DSLR camera. Originally it got my attention with one of the few with internal GPS for geo-tagging (something I insist and missing in d5600). But after you test it just for a 5 mins in shop or anywhere , the speed of focusing, the rotating screen overall feeling of it makes clear that Nikon used proven experience in building it. Oh and the most important - brilliant photos, seriously!

Although the first order didn't come with the lens, this was quickly rectified and it takes a brilliant picture. Got a few dry days to take some photos and i am really impressed can't wait to start my new hobby

Tolle Kamera, man kann sofort loslegen und sich Stück für Stück einarbeiten auch das mitgelieferte Objektiv stellt einen vor keine Rätsel. Würde ich sofort so wiederkaufen

Tiene una calidad óptica muy elevada, pantalla abatible (muy útil para hacer fotos con ángulos difíciles o grabar video), Wifi (útil para manejar la cámara desde el movil), graba audio en estéreo y video a 1080p y 60hz... El cuerpo transmite buenas sensaciones, es cómodo y todos los botones están al alcance Pros: Ergonomía, excelente calidad óptica, pantalla abatible, Wifi, micrófono estéreo, video a 1080p-60hz Contras: Podría tener un mejor control del ruido a ISOs elevadas, pero cumple sobradamente

Posseggo la mitica Nikon F 2 Fotomic e la Nikkormart con tutta una lunga serie di ottiche originali Nikkor dunque l' aspettativa per questo nuovo modello D 5300 era tanta . Ebbene non sono rimasto deluso. Le sue molteplici possibilità sono ben spiegate in un " libretto " di istruzioni di oltre 300 pagine . Quindi é una macchina per chi ama la fotografia ed appartiene ad una fascia di consumo , non professionale, ma certamente molto evoluta. Ulteriore chicca ho potuto fare delle splendide fotografie con tutti i miei " antichi " obiettivi Nikkor .

La camera va completata con un buon obbiettivo. Quello comprato a corredo è un obbiettivo che può far tutto. Segnalo la estrema rapidità della consegna. Nemmeno 24 ore. Bravi!
