Q: Will this tool also work on the threaded Moen cartridge retainers for the 1225?

The retractable button on the tool stem is designed to pop up when inside the outer part part of the Moen cartridge if it is jammed inside the pipe. The outer part of the Moen cartridge has recessed areas inside into which the button will lock to allow you to gently twist and pull the broken valve part out of the pipe. You may have to insert the tool and twist it around until you feel the button pop and lock. I used it on a Moen 1200 (all brass) that was installed in 1976 and was corroded from years of well water sediment, and came apart after using a screw-in type cartridge puller. Sprayed some WD40 into the valve pipe to help dissolve the sediment around the old cartrdge O-rings. The tool worked great and saved hundreds in plumber costs and tile replacement. It should also work on the 1222 and 1225 cartridges, which have similar configurations, but with some plastic or nylon materials which should be easier to pull. This tool is less that half the price as the Moen brand tool. If you are only going to use it occasionally it's a great buy.
