Whatever you do don't get a NIC with a built in fan! The dingy little fan will fail, the card will instantly overheat and your desktop or server will start crash/reboot. A fan on a NIC is an indication of a low quality, low performance / low yield chip. This cards from XZS have a real solid heatsink. Work very well and rock solid stable for our cluster servers.

This dual port 10G network card worked like a champ. Installed it in the system, disabled the boot from LAN options (which my system didn't like), but it works great once properly configured. It was NOT hard at all to make the BIOS changes needed OR to install the needed drivers to get it running with the OS. When I need another 2 port 10G network card, I'll go for another one of these!

Update: Removing 2 stars as item died 21 months later. The card was left alone during this time. Today it emitted a smell and died without warning. I would say that it overheated. --- Pros: Value for money, heatsink that dissipates heat without the need of a fan. Speed throughput really high at 10gbe. Cons: It can connect at 10gbe but the fallback is 1gbe - no 2.5gbe or 5gbe support. Seems to be using CPU a lot when maxing out speed. Windows drivers are not up to date. Get the Intel drivers (search for Ethernet Converged Network Adapter X540 Series) Overall, I am not sure if it's a keeper. I would like to see it work at 2.5gbe as well and use less CPU. Will test for the next few days.

The product works, Intel drivers downloaded directly from the Intel website. The heatsink is held onto the PCB with spring loaded plastic standoffs, and onto the pads that connect the heatsink to the Intel chip. When you mount this into the PC, the heatsink is upside down, and the springs are weak and the heatsink actually slumps and the pressure comes off the heatsink pads on the Intel chip. They seem too weak and I really hope the chip does not overheat due to this loss of pressure on the chip. You can see when you turn the card upside down, the heatsink moves away from the intel chip, it is not firmly held against the chip as the plastic spring standoffs are too weak for the weight of the heatsink. The packaging was rather horrible though. A thin plastic casing with no padding inside a thin box (which was crushed), inside a thin Amazon bag, sent internationally. I am amazed it arrived here without damage.

Purchased this to direct connect my QNAP TVS-882ST3 NAS. My transfer speeds went from 108MBps to over 480 MBps which is close to the limit of the Raid setup. As I add drives I'm sure this card will be able to keep up with the transfer requirements. Note, the card will not speed up your slow network unless you connect it to other 10G cards.

Network Card has been working like a champ for over 30 days now. Before using this network card, the server was crashing when trying to move large files from workstation to server. (using a 1 GB NIC and a 2.5 GB Switch). Using with 10GB switch and this network card.

Plug in play without issue in my Dell R710 Server. Proxmox recognized without having to do anything special. Tested speed hit the expected speeds.

Installed drivers and card but computer wouldn't see it. After some frustration realized I had to turn off (disable) my embedded network adapter. Once done computer saw it and connected to it. Works great I'm very happy with it.

I got this since I wanted to replace my high-end router/AP combo with an OPNSense router setup. First and foremost, in the box, you get the Network adapter and an SFF bracket. Installation is easy and OPNSense automatically recognizes the adapter. The trick with the X540 networking adapters is that it can only do 100Mbps/1Gbps/10Gbps. So if you have a 2.5Gbps infrastructure, you will miss out on performance and maybe this adapter is not for you. But I have a 10Gbps infrastructure so I went for it. I'm able to get the advertised 4Gbps symmetrical internet speeds using this adapter, and when I do an internal test, I am able to get up to 9.5Gbps which is exactly what I've been hoping for. This card doesn't report temperatures to the OS, but I checked it by hand after a couple days of heavy use and it wasn't even warm to the touch which is good news since these adapters are prone to overheating. Overall, this is a great networking adapter for someone who wants to get into the world of networking.

まだ、10G工事は終わっていないので10Gでの検証は出来ていませんが 1Gの状態でオンボードのLANと変わりなく使えています 発熱に関してですが、普通の暖かさで触れないとかは今の所無いです

Installed successfully in the PCIe slot of a Synology DS1821+ NAS running DSM 7.2 without having to install any drivers etc. - the 2 NICs showed up as adaptor 5 and 6 as soon as I powered it on and were recognised as 10GBit interfaces. My PC currently only has a 2.5GBit NIC, so I can't max it out yet, but I'm getting 220-280MBit/sec.
