Q: What's the maximum distance between the saw blade and fence (when used as a table saw)?

Not very much without digging through the garage approximately 130-150mm

Q: Could I cut scaffolding planks with this? Straight cuts, mitre, bevelled?

Q: I’m looking for a saw that will be used to cut ‘spline’ joints in picture frames. Is it possible to use custom sleds / jigs on the table top? Thx

Hi. Exactly this one is very powerful and with bigger blade than the same model from another markets. I don’t like that doesn’t have the soft start but you may have other opinion on this. The guide rail is only 40mm high and nut on front side only (not yet sophisticated)(if you cut heavy peace of wood it will definitely move slightly!you definitely have to custom your jigs to cut long pcs up for the spline j.or better use router .Cut up to 50mm deep on top of the table . It’s a good peace of kit to have in your toolbox Hope this will answer your question and is up to you now. Good luck!
