Battery Seems Good - Plastic Tools are garbage
I have a 4th gen iPod. I have replaced the hard drive and now the battery is really weak. I use the iPod in my car (radio has iPod interface so it does not use the battery), doing yard work, in the gym and in my art room. The use is not real heavy. I decided since the price is good and I do use the iPod it is time to replace the battery.I received the battery just fine, tried to use the plastic tools to open the case ... as everyone says the tools are crap and break. I expected that. However, the little screwdriver that comes with the kit works fine (glad it is in the kit). Since the battery power wires loop under the circuit board it is necessary to remove the 2 little screws holding the board on to get the wires unplugged. It is not necessary to remove the entire board... just be nice to it and don't rip and yank. It would be nice for many to have some instructions on how to replace the battery, but there is plenty of instructions on how to do that on the web.I have used the new battery only a couple times so far but it seems to be holding the charge just fine. I guess only time will tell. Since I am only a part time user I would recommend reading more reviews for users that really punish their iPod. But... the bottom line is for the price (plus Amazon Prime) you really cannot go wrong with this battery.

My old iPod works again!
This package included everything shown in the product photo. The price is a good deal. Although, as other reviewers stated the blue case opener tools are made of a very soft plastic and the tips broke off right away rendering them useless. I would have given 5 stars if the tools were made of unbreakable hard plastic. The torx screwdriver worked great. The battery came at least half charged which was great so I could test that everything worked before putting my tools away. Before the tips of the blue tools broke off I was at least able to use one to gently pry up on the thin strip of metal surrounding the docking/charging opening on the bottom of iPod (can't think of the term) in order to create a small gap into which I then inserted a guitar pick to keep the gap open. Then I was able to insert a very small flat head screwdriver (like the type you might repair eyeglasses with) into the gap which allowed me to open the case. I did scratch the case a bit using the screwdriver but that wasn't a concern to me. My iPod is ten years old after all and I was more interested in saving my music than keeping the case pristine.Definitely search YouTube for instructional videos on how to open the case and replace the battery. That made it a breeze once the case was open, which is the most challenging part.I also want to mention that although I knew my battery was dead, it didn't occur to me that it was also the cause of why I could no longer push in the center button of the click wheel. From a web search I learned that as the battery gets old, it can expand inside the case thus leaving no room for the center button to be pushed in. I was thrilled to learn that the only thing I had to do was replace the battery and not the entire click wheel.

ReKINDLEd Relationship with an Old iPod
My iPod Photo was given to me several years ago as a birthday gift, so it holds tremendous sentimental value. It stopped working a couple years ago, but I had an iPod with video to replace it, so my iPod Photo sat neglected in a drawer. Once my newer device stopped working, I decided to replace the batteries in both of them rather than purchase a new iPod to save some money. The overall value of this replacement kit is incredible. Other vendors charge twice as much (or more) for the battery after checking both online and locally. Some come with the spanner tools and screwdriver, but many don't. While the spanner tools will probably only work once as they are made of a soft, non-marring plastic, they are efficient and you should receive another set if you ever need another kit. The small Torx screwdriver that comes with the kit is of average quality, but appears to be useful for other projects should the need arise. The silicone plug protectors are handy, but I did not use them during the replacement. However, I will use them for both of my iPods (you get two protectors) when they are not in use. The battery itself has a higher mAh rating than others (1300 as opposed to 850, 900 and 1000), so it should last much longer than the original and other inferior replacements. While I am comfortable with replacing computer parts (ram, video cards, internal hard drives, optical drives, power supplies, etc.), this was a bit more challenging because the device and its internal parts are so small. After viewing a couple online videos and some deep breaths, I took the plunge and opened the unit. Once the outer covering of the iPod is separated, it only gets easier, so take your time with the casing. A beneficial feature of the replacement battery is the wiring and plug as it is longer than the original. This makes it easy to plug it in and tuck the wiring in properly to avoid kinks and pinching. If it weren't for the included Torx screwdriver, this task could have been much more difficult. Finally, and once you've resealed your iPod, make sure you fully charge the battery and keep it so for a few hours. From what I've read, this helps break the battery in and should result in a happy (and long, hopefully) life for the both of you.In short, this kit is well worth the $8.96 plus shipping because of its ease of use, efficiency and it rekindled my relationship with a cherished iPod.

It works
This is the second battery to go into the ipod 4th gen. it's getting harder to get batteries for the older ipods but this one fits and came with everything as advertised. The plastic prying tools were kind of useless the tips bent then snapped off when trying to pry the back cover off. I ended up using another phone tool kit that came with a guitar pick type pry tool that did the job.The battery works and holds a charge but these generic batteries don't seem to last as long as the original. It doesn't matter I keep the thing in my car and is connected to a charger at all times, I only need the battery to keep the device on otherwise it takes several minutes for the ipod to boot up and sometimes the head unit doesn't see the ipod until the headunit is restarted.
