I used M.Graham, Winsor Newton, Reeves, Sargeant, Arteza gouache before I used Holbein and I have nothing, but praise for Holbein. Striking, vibrant, gorgeous pigments, smooth layering, creamy consistency and they reactivate relatively easy on the palette. I keep mine inside a regular metalic palette. They do get hard and could crumble, but I don't care. I can just go over with a wet brush and easily lift up pigment to use.They mix very well. Some of the colors lift easier than others on paper when you layer, but it's the nature of the beast with gouache. Just go easy with the water and the brush stroke. They do dilute well and achieve beautiful watercolor effects. I find myself reaching for the Holbein set more often than with any other brand I have. I got a second set when they were on sale because I do not want to ever run out of this paint.

As far as sheerness, its gouache so you can modify that with water-- this is my second set, I used all of my paints from the first. Very high quality but for beginners I recommend gouache by Turner, it is more affordable and still has great pigment.Easy to use, has great pigment and opacity/sheerness as it responds to water very very well. Would highly recommend this product.

Great quality paint. This brand came highly recommended by multiple other people so I chose it. I am not disappointed! It is smooth in its application and it applies rather opaque. Because it is gouache it does need water added to it to get the needed consistency or it will be too thick, so make sure you know what you are buying here.

This is an excellent professional gouache paint set that perfectly matches their watercolors as well. If you are looking to get into gouache and want a nicer finish than Windsor & Newton, then this is the set. The tubes are a bit small, but they are excellent quality and the lightfast rating is fairly high on most of the colors.

Having only used cheap quality gouache before, it was nice to use something a bit fancier. I’m ised to having to scoop gouache onto the page, but I quickly realized that you don’t have to use as much for a good look and pigmentation here.
