Really nice lay out!
This is a great book!! Really nice instructions laid out in a progressive fashion. I would say a crafty 10 year old would be great with this - straight on up to - well - just keep going from there up lol!The instructions are really nicely given - clear enough - but also there's some depth. Some books look great but the complexity is off putting. Some books look like they promise a lot - but the reality of what they offer is pretty unsubstantial. I was very pleased with this book! Easy enough for a bright 10 year old, but had enough complexity that an adult could keep going into more intricacies of design. Kudos!

Tons of Fun!
A very easy to follow book that leads to sophisticated tangles you can actually show off to people. The spiral format is great because it will lie flat while you work, so you can refer to it as necessary. Terrific patterns!

Great Book!
I have a few Zentangle books and I used to do them a lot about a year ago. Recently, I had surgery and have been laid up for a long time. I decided to do some and boy was I rusty! I decided to pick up this book and I was so glad I did. It helped me focus again and not get overwhelmed with all the tangles and options. I love the chapters and the steps the author takes. I think this book is great for a beginner or even someone who just needs a refresher course. Great addition to a library!

Fun, but a little tedious
I enjoyed learning this technique, but found that I needed to have fewer "rules" about what an how to draw. It's a doodler's dream, and I like that the tiles are in the book and on the page - you can work out your design right on the page with the instructions. The process is relaxing and simple enough that anyone with any level of artistic ability can master it easily.

The best doodle guide EVER!
There were some negative reviews that almost made me choose another guide. I’m so glad I didn’t! I actually like the paper grade. I don’t know enough about paper grade to discus it in the proper terms, but it is of medium weight, not glossy at all- very decent for doodling on. I love that this is a spiral bound book- makes it lay open in an excellent manner for writing and drawing. I was skeptical about needing a guide to “doodle” - I’m sold- I love this guide - it’s my new best friend!

A beautiful book
This is a beautiful book! Large with a hard cover and spiral binding. Lovely paper, layout, and design. The lessons are easy and encouraging. I'm new to Zentangle but having so much fun with this book. Ordered one for a friend. It would be good for my grandkids too.

Best first Zentangle® book
This is a good introduction to Zentangle® and I like the lay-flat binding. As a workbook it's only partially successful, though; the paper quality is not what it should be for tangling. Also, the idea that we need to practice tangles before committing them to tiles is different from the Maria Thomas and Rick Roberts dive-right-in approach, so I'd suggest tangling on tiles right away so the "magic" of the method can happen. I wish the designers had considered a higher grade paper for this book so that the final appearance of the completed workbook would be worthy of the effort and artistry that will have gone into creating it. That said, the book is a fun way to record your Zentangle® journey. It's a good first step. Next up, try Joy of Zentangle for tangle acquisition. After that, there's Pattern Play and Creative Tangle. For inspiration (not perspiration—no new new tangles to learn), there's Beauty of Zentangle. Maria and Rick's own Book of Zentangle is also lovely and does the best job of explaining what makes Zentangle® a unique meditation practice.

Disappointing. Tangles could be better illustrated - there are clearer visuals on the Zentangle website. I think there are better books out there to learn by than this one. Wouldn't recommend.

fantastic book, it teachers you how to zentangle from beginning with step by step instructions. great book for a learner, any body can zentangle no skill is required it is basically a form of doodling. This book also gives you pages opposite the instructions for you to practice on and keep your designs. The front of the book has inscription " This Book Belongs To", so you can write your name , its a fantastic gift idea, I bought this for my 12 year old grandson and he was very happy with it. Just buy it you wont be disappointed.
