Two Brilliant Film's Together.
What did I like or not like about these film's. In a way, these are 2 silly question's. They are both lovely film's. The Rail Way Children, I saw many year's ago. A lovely film, beautifully filmed. Lovingly filmed and such a damn good film. Loved every minute of it. I will give it 10 out of 10. Well worth watching and I am just past 66 !. This film is a classic and I mean it's a CLASSIC. It will fit beautifully into your collection. Swallow's and Amazon's is the film we all wish we took our holiday on. The beautifull Lake District with the splendour of our innocense of youth. Combined with that very special thing, ADVENTURE !!!. I loved this film and will watch it again. I have been to the Lake District 3 time's. I want to live up there. The camera work is lovely and the whole film is gripping from start to finnish. This is another CLASSIC you should buy for your shelf. Two wonderful film's well worth the money and spending out on. Absolutely brilliant. PC. 12. 10. 2018.

Timeless escapism.
They spend £50 million and more on movies these days. They still don't achieve half of the charm or atmosphere that these two movies Swallows & Amazons and The Railway Children have. I'm 42 and this DVD set arrived this morning. I haven't seen S&A since the late 80's. I taped it when it was on TV. A thing I stopped doing when DVD hit the streets and VCR's became rare.Anyway these two movies are perfect to boost morale at any time of the day or night or if the weather outside is poor. Even during this seemingly constant lockdown we're all in just now. These movies along with the likes of the Carry On movies are ideal for taking our minds of reality for a time. Delve into the worlds on display on our TV screens. Quality immersion.

Something for Everyone
"The Railway Children" is one of those rare films that entertains everyone in my family, from my 81-year-old mother to my five-year-old son and is perfect for a gloomy, wintry, Sunday afternoon. I've lost count of how many times I've watched it, but I still can't sit through the final scene without blinking back the tears - slightly embarrassing for a man in his mid-40s!"Swallows and Amazons" is a different affair. The children's acting is variable and very little happens, but my normally cynical 11-year-old son was enchanted by it. I think he simply enjoyed watching a film in which children had complete freedom to come and go as they pleased, with only the minimum of adult supervision. What child wouldn't want to spend their summer holidays sailing around a lake and camping on uninhabited islands? My mother fell asleep after 15 minutes.I quite enjoyed "Swallows and Amazons". It plodded along a little, but the scenery was beautiful and I found the story delightful.I would have happily have paid the cover price for either one of these films. To get both together at a price that is lower than some DVD rental places, makes this a real bargain. These aren't films you'll only want to watch once, so I'd thoroughly recommend buying this two-in-one set.

Hurrah!
I gave it 4 stars as an average as there are two films- one a veritable 5* and the other a paltry 3. Swallows and amazons are absolutely ace- there are a few unexplained things in the film, like how people know things without it being communicated but it's overlookable. I don't know why Susan, if her name is Susan has to sew Roger's buttons on, or why her mother has 5 children but you know it really doesn't matter. Best are Titty and Nancy. The 3* is for the railway kids. I read this book as a whippersnapper, and have watched both films but I now realise I prefer the one where Jenny Agutter is the mother, and this is the one where she is the child. She is one of the best parts of the film, but there's something about the way it's put together that's rather odd. For example, clown music begins to play whenever something happens that the audience is supposed to find funny and there is an unnecessary scene where the band plays the songs absurdly wrong when Peter is supposed to be giving his " thanks for thanking us for saving the train" speech. The railway children isn't supposed to be funny, it's supposed to make you cry into your crisps. Also some of the actors seem a little odd. Although the Russian is a better Russian than the one in the later film (fortunately Peter had 4 stamps on him, one being Russian enabling the man to identify himself), the doctor is extremely uncomfortable making, to the point where it shouldn't have been in the film unless it was going to turn into an unsettling storyline. When he kissed Roberta at her birthday (she rolls in like a ghost on wheels, I assume to infer a dreamlike quality) I wanted to slap him. The old gentleman, Perks and the father were all a bit strange too.The later film is a hearty 5* though- buy that one! Three cheers! Huzzah!

Old ones, but great ones
Two wonderful films, which are beauitful and faithful interpretations of their respective novels. Jennie Agutter in Railway children is an especial delight. My daughter (7) and son (4) absolutely love both these films! They can quote them pretty much word for word they have watched them so often! And they often play make-believe games as one or other of the characters - there is so much for their imaginations. And they prefer them to all the Disney films they've seen. So although the stories don't have lots of whizzes and bangs, unlike most modern children's films there is something much more real and immediate about them that they can connect with. Highly recommended, for children of all ages!

inaudible sound track
Shockingly bad sound, so most of the time it's listening to Tibetan with a speech defect. As a result I missed most of the dialogue. And there were no subtitles.

Both films fantastic. My 5 year old granddaughter and I had a great time watching them. I thought maybe at 5 years old she would lose interest very soon into the film but she was thrilled with them both. Rating which film we preferred my granddaughter thought long and hard and decided her favourite was Swallows and Amazons because the children had loads of adventures.
