Dr. Ph. Martin's Bombay India Ink, 1.0 oz, Set of 12 (Set 2)

These inks have some beautiful colours. I am an amateur artist and have really enjoyed creating very bright, colourful artwork. Would highly recommend. They are, however, quite expensive so should be used sparingly.

I treated myself to both Set 1 and Set 2 having worked with the PH Martin’s intense watercolours in the past and been very impressed. A little goes a very long way with these and I am more than Happy with my purchase. I use ink and watercolours a lot and these are of exceptional quality. I would definitely recommend these to other artists who need to infuse their work with a strong hit of pigment. Go on Treat YOURSELF!

Great colours and the ink is beautiful, smooth and solid. I’ve been having fun painting with it. Bit pricey, but the ink will last for ages.

This is a nice collection of colours that work well together; none are classic primary colours. As they are pigment based inks, they have more in common with paint than dye based inks, in that they are a suspension of particles rather than a solution, just like black India ink is a suspension of carbon particles. This means that they can settle with time and they do need shaking before use. Most of them need minimal shaking. The exceptions are Yellow Ochre and Terra Cotta which are more viscous and settle faster than the others. These two are opaque, drying to a matt finish, much like white ink does. This is good on tinted paper. The other colours are more transparent and are bright and clear on white paper and, to state the obvious, distinctly muted on grey paper, especially the golden yellow which seems particularly thin and low on pigment. They dry matt when washed out thinly, but have a sheen where applied more thickly. I have yet to test them wet on wet. On the down side, one slight annoyance is that the Red Violet is virtually indistinguishable from the Cherry Red. And a more general complaint is that the narrow necked bottles with the droppers makes using them with a dip pen or brush a bit of a pain. I'm guessing these are aimed more at people using air brushes.

Bought ranges 1 and 2 great set of colours. Would buy again.

I ADORE Dr. Ph. Martin's inks. The colors are true to how hey appear in the bottle (once any sediment has been properly shaken up and suspended), truly waterproof, no fading. The ink doesn't run and bleed everywhere, it works with every nib I've tried (quite a range, every modern leonardt, almost every modern speedball, several others), and almost every paper (anything your nib scratches to bits is obviously out of the question). It is a thicker ink than many others you might find--it flows beautifully, smooth without breaks, but you don't want to, say, leave it in a roundhand nib with a reservoir untouched for ten minutes. It is ink. It will dry. But that just leads me to another plus--it's easy to clean out. Once dry it flakes off nibs at the touch of fingernail, not counting unfortunate grooves. It responds well to nib cleaning solution, abd of course when wet (again, not counting grooves where any ink would get stuck) it wipes right off with paper. I've also found that it come out of my scrap cloth with little effort, but don't go spilling it on your carpet or favorite white shirt and expect it to come out. I just mean that the scrap I use for cleaning isn't blackened from these. They also are wonderful in painting, and again waterproof, so you can do things like soaking a drawing in tea to make it appear aged without worrying about losing the drawing. And so many colors. I have four sets now, and a couple of additional bottles of the colors I use very often (black, blue, red, brown, gold). Really. I cannot recommend these inks enough. If you're not sure that you'll make use of all the colors (though I find that I discover uses once I have them), buying individual bottles is an excellent idea. I'm sure that once you try it you'll be as satisfied as I am. I welcome any questions.

These inks are a joy to work with! They are vibrant , colour fast , and mixes well. I use them in mixed media , and find it pure enjoyment in my projects.
