How do you disconnect the arm?

If I understand you correctly you don't need to disconnect the arm to close the door, you just pull it shut.  The door will stay open when it's breezy but will still blow shut in a strong wind.  You open it until it clicks and then it holds until you pull it shut or as already mentioned it is blown shut in high winds.

Question 2

The 1st instruction states to engage the "arrow" in the spring mechanism but now it's stuck fast so I can't test opening and closing without screwing?

It is a tight fit but it is possible to disengage with some effort. It is not necessary to do so as it will need to be engaged to determine the fitting positions. I fitted the channel part to the top of the door first. Then hold the door in the required lock position, preferably slightly less than straight out, then swing the other arm to the frame using the point where it intersects with the frame nearest the hinge side to determine the point to fix that end. The fixings do need to be very secure!  It should then be possible to close the door to release the clip and the job is done. If necessary get help to release the clip to fully understand how it all works.I found the best position for the Channel arm is with the clip end about 5 inches from the hinge end of the channel channel part of the door Good luck.

How do you fit this item

It is quire easy really & basic instructions come with the unit. If I remember correctly they were also on the supplier trulypvcsupplies.com website. Open the door 90degrees or and put the long section in the groove on the top of the door. With the arm slid to the back of the slot in the long section position the short one in the groove on the frame. Mark the screw holes & drill. The secure with the screws provided & that's it.

What size of doors does this go up to?

I have 3 fitted on 2 metre high doors, one at 60 cm and 2 at 90cm wide, all working well. I imagine that width and weight could be critical factors but they work perfectly on the heavy (ish) upvc doors so I would guess that anything over 1 metre may be asking a bit much but it probably depends as much on how much force is used opening and closing plus the effect of wind when using the hold in open feature which also works perfectly for me.
