I absolutely love this shelf! It is such high quality and was very easy to put together / place on wall. It can be used in any room - whether it’s your living room, office, or for us - the bathroom! Our master bathroom is large but without a linen closet. This shelf helps us stay organized while still matching the aesthetic of our home. It is easy to clean, stable, and high quality! I love it so much, I am ordering more for other rooms in my home.

This 5-shelf unit checks the boxes most people care about but rarely get all at once. First, it’s solid. Once installed, there’s no wobble—even fully loaded with heavy cookbooks. That’s where a lot of similar units fail, but this one holds real weight without feeling flimsy. Second, the design is clean and elevated. It doesn’t look like a cheap storage fix—it blends in like intentional decor. Works especially well in tighter or in-between spaces (like this laundry/kitchen area) where you want something functional but still polished. Install was straightforward - about 20 minutes total. No complicated steps, no frustration. If someone struggles with basic assembly, this isn’t going to be forgiving—but for anyone even mildly handy, it’s easy. A couple things to be aware of: • You need to secure it properly - this isn’t something you want freestanding and top-heavy. • Shelf spacing is fixed, so if you have oversized items, plan accordingly. Bottom line: If you want something that looks good AND actually holds weight, this is a strong buy. Note: we’re going to buy 2 more for small gym and not use the bottom shelf so cat litter box can fit underneath.

This shelf is very sturdy and looks beautiful. I am impressed with the quality and ease of assembly. It looks great and fits perfectly in the space I needed it for.

I'm in corporate furniture so I watch a LOT of furniture be assembled, plus I've spent my whole life building Ikea furniture at home, so I'd call myself on the handier side of the scale, as is my husband. That said, the 40 minutes assembly estimate is aggressive for the unit with drawers. If you've done it before, maybe you could bang it out in 40, but it took us almost two hours. The bookshelf we'd have had done in 30, I'm quite certain. Some tricks for install: The drawer glides! The directions don't do a stellar job of telling you how to orient them in the encasement, and I installed three of them before I realized they were going in upside down. They LOOKED upside down, but I kept checking the graphic and going Nope, I got this, this is how they go.... and then checking again, and again, until I was installing the third and realized they were, in fact, upside down. Few minutes lost, but que sera. Vertical build: Once you have the parts completed and you're going to put the shelves on the uprights, lay one upright on it's side and place the shelves/cabinet on it, securing them, and then lay the second upright on top. Trust me on this one. Wall anchoring: The instructions call for a 1/4" drill bit to prep for the wall anchors, but for us that was TOO BIG. Thankfully one of them hit a stud, so we don't have to take it down/patch/paint/redrill, nor do we need a run to the hardware store for a larger anchor, but use caution when blindly following the instructions like I did. Handles: I bought the white/natural wood one, and it shipped with black metal handles. I get it, everyone gets the same handles, but they would like 400 times better if they were white. The black, in our mostly white kitchen, on this white shelving unit, is jarring. So we're spray painting them. All in all this is a beautiful and function unit that I've placed in my kitchen, storing coffee and recipe cards in the bottom drawer, tea and cheeseclothes in the top drawer, and frequently used pans/a couple cookbooks/some decor on the shelves. It looks fantastic, and I would absolutely recommend.

I have had two of these for years, and we have moved across the country 4 different times with them and they have held up. I still plan on eventually buying two more, because for the most part, they are durable, stylish, and I like them a lot. My biggest issue is that they don't have a lot of support on the shelves. Each one balances on two screws in the middle of the shelf, so that's where the weight needs to be distributed. I did add black zip ties to the bottom legs where two shelves meet, so they stay in the same position - each has a small bit of variation. Regardless, I like them well enough.

We originally purchased 4 sets of the Nathan James Theo 5-Shelf Bookcases in white and gold to frame our fireplace in the living room. We stacked the units vertically (two per side) to create the look of tall, built-in shelving—and the final result is stunning! The design is clean, modern, and elegant, and it instantly elevated the entire room. Because we stacked them, we made sure to anchor them securely to the wall using heavier-duty wall anchors than those provided. These shelves can become top-heavy when stacked, especially on carpet or uneven surfaces, so safety is key. We chose to use lightweight decorative items—like candles, plants, and small decor pieces—for a modern, airy look rather than loading them down with heavy books. We loved the look and quality so much that we also bought another set for our home office this time in the black metal and natural wood finish. We did not stack these because the way they are assembled was different than the gold metal, so had to return the extras and stick with the original design. The darker tone works perfectly in a more professional space, and we styled them with a mix of books, plants, and personal items. These were just as beautiful used as is. The shelves are easy to assemble, have a clean-lined industrial design, and offer lots of styling options depending on the space. Whether you’re going for decorative or functional, they’re a fantastic and affordable way to upgrade your space. Highly recommend—but don’t skip the wall anchors, especially if you have kids or pets!

Best investment ever and yes, you need these shelves. My fiance and I recently bought our first home, and as first time home buyers we've been dealing with the arduous task of furnishing our 3 story dream home while staying in budget. He has always talked about the idea of having a built in bookcase, but once we realized the potential cost, we decided to explore other options. Insert, THESE GLORIOUS SHELVES. I've had my eye on them for a while now and finally we decided to go ahead and pull the trigger. We ended up buying (3) 5 level shelves and adding the parts of the third shelf (for added height) to the shelves shown in my pics. It sounds confusing, but the result is now (2) 7 level shelves. Growing up it seems like most of our living rooms were high ceiling/2-storied rooms. That's why I was initially a little confused with what to do with our one-story living room. This shelf was a perfect solution. These shelves instantly give any space a high-end look while simultaneously bringing the illusion of a much higher ceiling. I assembled them with power tools and then my sweet dad came over and bolted them to our walls because I was very afraid of messing it up. One month later and I can honestly say that this product is extremely well made and built to hold a considerable amount of weight. To give you an idea, I currently have mine loaded up with an assortment of silver and crystal (among other heavy items), and they shelves are incredibly secure and have no issue holding a ton of weight. If you can't already tell, I'm simply delighted and absolutely love the elevated look and element of design our living room now carries. It’s a great way to have a high-end built in bookcase vibe without having to take out a 2nd mortgage. Whenever people come over they instantly give us compliments on these gorgeous shelves. Oh and they’re currently decorated for Christmas. Hence all of the tulle, burlap, and Christmas lights. ☺️ I'm now toying with the idea of making one of our guest bedrooms my walk-in closet and buying more of these to hold my shoes and purses. I’m so happy I decided to purchase this shelf. It was super easy to install by myself and it looks great. Including unpacking it, it took me roughly 20 mins to install each shelf. I also purchased the Nathan James desk to go alongside it. The shelves are not real wood but a laminated MDF which I don’t mind cause there still really sturdy. If you mount the shelf in a stud you will be fine but if not I don’t recommend using the screws and plugs they provide as there small and crappy. I personally used metal plugs and the shelf isn’t going anywhere. The price is pretty high for this product not to have real wood shelves but I totally recommend this product.

The bookcases were easy to build and actually look very nice and modern. The only problem is, one of the bookcases wasn't as well put together as the other three (I ordered four) and was damaged (metal scratched/grooved at the side of one of the shelves), which was such a shame, as they were not cheap.

I received this product and set it up. It was easy to set up. It looks good and of quality. The shelves are sturdy and support a lot of weight. I would strongly recommend this product. Unfortunately, the received product had one scratch. I contacted the company (Nathan James) who immediately resolved the problem. The only downside to this product was Amazon used Purolator to ship it. Purolator was extremely difficult to deal with and it was challenging to actually get this product delivered.

Was very easy to assemble (took 30 min and that's including looking for my tool kit). Was expecting something bulky but turns out that it is very discreet and fits perfectly with the rest of my furniture. The size is perfect...not too high, just enough shelves...looks delicate but is strongly built. I am simply in love with it. Can be placed in a bedroom,living room, kitchen...it doesn't matter. I would recommend this product without a doubt. I might even purchase 3 more to replace my old bookcases. Thank you Nathan James for such a beautiful product.

Overall I am super happy with the final look. It's the closest thing I could find to what I wanted, at a reasonable price. I was eyeing the CB2, but at mode than triple the price of the size I needed, it wasn't an option for me. The installation was pretty simple and took no more than 30min. The issue we had was the screws seeming not sturrdy enough, so we used a more sturdy anchor that we had on hand. The look is sleek, simple, a classy. I cannot wait to decorate it with items. I have to say there are a few strange marks that almost each of the shelves had which I am unable to remove.... It's not a deal breaker but you should be aware if you're a perfectionist this may irritate you (see photos attached). Overall, I am satisfied with the purchase and overall look of the product. As you can see I installed two side by side and really like the look.
