Great for the price
I bought these primarily for studying so I can block out other noisy students in the library and wear them for long amounts of time without my ears getting sore. I also chose these because Sony seems to make good headphones, and I really liked the design- they aren’t too huge and bulky. PROs: Comfortable, I wear these for hours at a time in the library. Of course every so often I take them off for 5 minutes when my ears get warm but that’s inevitable. Happy with how comfortable they are because I also wear hijab, which means I already have 2 layers of fabric over my ears which makes most headphones so uncomfortable and painful to wear. The top band is squishy so it doesn’t hurt your head much. The sound is lovely, but I’m no expert or that fussed over sound so I don’t know how it holds up against others. But I noticed a big difference with my other headphones, the music sounds great and you can adjust the settings from the app. The noise cancelling mode is pretty good. Again I have no real point of comparison. It mostly blocks background noise, not people’s voices. Voices become muted, especially if it’s a crowd, but you can still hear people talking around you which is a bit of a bummer. But they are great for blocking other sounds- for example on the motorway, they totally block out the sounds of the road and cars. When I take them off I get shocked by how loud it is. This is great if you get overstimulated. Sometimes I wear them without playing anything just for some quiet. They block out some noise even without turning them on. The app is good, you can adjust the noise cancelling. NC mode sometimes gives me a headache after a while, not sure why, so I often switch to ambient mode. Battery strength is good. You should charge it every night if you’re going to use it a lot though. The only times it’s ran out is when I haven’t charged it in a few days despite heavy use. You could definitely charge it fully once and use it non stop for a car and plane journey- I’ve done that. Very light considering the size. They aren’t heavy enough to hurt your head. Sometimes my scalp hurts after a while but that would happen with any sustained pressure. I just shift them forward or backwards and its fine. They’re pretty secure, enough to run in, but not sure of they’re tight enough to exercise at all angles with, you know moving your head up and down. I think if they were any tighter they’d be uncomfortable anyway so I don’t mind. They’re pretty sturdy, not floppy lile my other smaller headphones from Sony. I got it in white and I don’t regret it. They look very stylish. I hesitated because in the picture it looks paper white, but it’s a bit more muted in person, with hints of grey. CONs: Despite being generally comfortable, there’s a really annoying piece of plastic in the ear that pokes at my ear sometimes. I don’t know if it’s because my ears/head are sort of big but it’s irritating sometimes. I have to shift it around. They don’t fold up. If they did they’d be so much easier to transport. As it is, I wear them around my neck, as the ear pieces thankfully do twist around. Still I think they’d be easier to take care of if they folded. It’s sort of risky just putting them in your bag, unless you can be bothered to carry them in a proper case which admittedly I rarely do. I had to buy a separate case for around £14 so add that to your tally. The buttons feel a bit cheap, they’re quite clicky, not very soft. I don’t really care about that sort of thing but I know some people do. OVERALL: I got these after a long while of comparing different headphones. I settled on these because of the price. I’m a uni student and this is the most I’m willing to spend. It’s actually a little steep, especially since I don’t listen to music that much. They’re mainly for studying and travel. But because of the noise cancelling I end up using them a lot. If they were any more expensive, I’d be too afraid to use them as much as I do. Whilst they’re expensive for my range, they are the cheapest of Sonys over ear headphones that are good. And that also LOOK good. I’ll admit I value the aesthetics- there’s other brands with similar headphones that probably perform as well for less, but that look bulkier and uglier. These look great. So I don’t regret this purchase!! I think it would be a total waste if I bought the more expensive Sony headphones that are more trendy right now, especially since I bought this myself. If you’re a student looking for a solid pair of headphones but can’t afford the popular ones, these are a great shout! I plan on using them at least until I finish university, so 3 year’s minimum. I’m getting my money’s worth. I also heard they use the same tech as the Sony XM4/5 but don’t quote me on that- but I think 90% of people would be very happy with the sound. I bought these when they dropped and there we’re basically 0 reviews- I took a leap and have no regrets!! They’d also make a great gift for any teenager obsessed with their music lol. Update: it’s now January 2024 and I rarely go anywhere without them! Still in great shape and the noise cancelling is a god send. I get asked about them all the time. And I’ve been shoving them my bag unceremoniously for months and they’re still going strong Extra Update: I’ve since got the airpods pro 2 which have amazing sound quality. Now when I use these Sony headphones, the difference in sound quality is unfortunately really obvious. But it’s one of those things where if you don’t know how good it COULD sound, you won’t miss it.

Great sounding headphones for the price
This is my first more expensive wireless headphones, and I'm astonished by its capabilities. It was not that expensive, but the bass is really nice. The overall sound is great too when wireless. The battery life is as you would expect - you don't really need to think about recharging it. It lasts all day and only goes down to around 60% (mostly non-ANC), and it charges really fast. It seems that the ear pads it has is a bit too thin for my big ears, so it gets somewhat unfortunately if I keep the headphones on all day. I think I might look for replacement ones that are thicker so my ears are not touching the drivers as much. If you have smaller ears, it should be fine and comfortable, even with glasses or a hat. The ANC is great, but it is my first ANC product, so I don't have anything to compare it with. It is able to drown out on-going machine noise around me at a switch of a button, but you will still hear something - it is not perfect. I don't use the passive mode, just ANC on or off - you can configure that in the app. The app is great and useful, and I like that there is just one app for all Sony headphones. It lets you configure lots of things, including having an equalizer with 6 bands. You can also set it so that the headphones can connect to two devices via Bluetooth, meaning you can play music or videos on one device, and it'll immediately switch when the other device plays something. It's really useful if you don't want to keep connecting and disconnecting your computer and phone. The headphones come with a headphone jack wire to connect to your device, like your computer. The sound is really muffled when the headphones are on and connected, and I looked at the manual, and it says it needs over 300 ohms when on! Don't expect to get the best audio with the wire on your typical computer - you will need a DAC or amplifier. Honestly, the wireless audio is good enough, so I don't feel like I'm missing out. From what I've read on the internet, the more expensive Sony headphones like this such as the XMS5's are less bang for the buck, so I really recommend these ones. I'm sure these will last me for a long time.

Works well for the price.
For its price, the headphones perform well and have clear sound quality. After the death of my Beats Solo 3, I turned to Sony as I was looking for another reputable brand with a wide range of products. When seeing these headphones I bought them due to their relatively cheap price and promise of Active Noise Cancellation. The design is nice with a navy blue colour, easy to connect, and battery life can easily last me a whole week on one charge as someone who listens for at least 3 hours a day. In terms of audio quality, it was a slight downgrade from my beats as they lack the heavy bass I was used to but still good enough for the average listeners. It connects well with the Sony app where you have the option to change the audio profile to your choice so I’m sure if I look into that I can better suit the headphones to me. They do however feel a bit light and flimsy in compared to my Beats which had real leather ear cups and a solid metal band inside but when wearing them on the pro side, they are light and comfortable in comparison to my old headphones that would squeeze my head and hurt my skull. The noise cancelling is not that good however with it reducing outside sound a lot, but not completely blocking it out. They are large in size and can easily expand for those with larger heads but do note, there is no case for carrying so I often find myself having them stored around my neck. When looking for a good pair of headphones for a reasonable price, these will do the job. The nice cancellation work well enough for most, the sound is descent, and the battery is long lasting. Only downsides are due to the price which obviously only a top end headphone could achieve but for what the price is, I saintly recommend. Sincerely, A broke uni student.

Astonishing value
After my previous headphones failed and I read a review which noted that these headphones had the same chipset as Sony's top-of-the-range ones and were not much cut down from that, I bought them immediately ... and was not disappointed. What you don't get by paying a fraction of the price is: - "Premium" finish so no metal, (p)leather, fancy textured plastics or similar. However, I actually prefer the plain plastic construction here as it weighs little and is comfortable for hours. - Some noise cancellation. Reviews state that these headphones use four microphones to detect the noise to be cancelled but the top-of-the-range headphones use 12; I wonder what the difference would be in real life as Sony is commonly stated as having the best noise cancellation around and I see no reason to contradict that here. - Wear detection (in other words, if you take your headphones off the sound cuts out, then starts up when you put them on again, saving battery). - Some battery life, although the quoted 35 hours is seen here in practice. - Replaceable ear muffs (I think), although it is never actually said whether they may be replaced or not. - A case. Obviously, any deficit in sound quality can't be evaluated as that would require the (very) expensive headphones for comparison, but I struggle to envisage what any improvement might be. Sony's Sound Connect app supports a lot of parameters, such as the degree and type of noise cancellation and DSEE (a Sony special which revitalises, as best it can, badly compressed streams and does actually make an improvement). Firmware updates are supported; there was one the first time I connected to the app, and I am currently on 1.1.4. There is nothing missing that I can see and more control than, for example, with (Anker) Soundcore. Finally, Bluetooth pairing is perfect - connection is instant and solid. My old Cambridge Audio headphones, although they cost over three times as much, had slightly inferior sound, inferior noise cancellation and far inferior Bluetooth connectivity, despite multiple firmware updates, to the extent that they became annoying. Five stars. These headphones are a gift - they are, on paper, technically almost the same as far more expensive ones from the same manufacturer and the cuts made to keep the price down are easily bearable.

Nice budget friendly headphones
The best headphones ive ever used, they are good for in the gym however i wouldnt use them on a run as they can sometimes be slidy, ive had them for a couple years now and im not very careful with them so there’s some wear and tear on them now, if i kept them safe they wouldnt be as bad as they are, the noise cancelling works to a degree but some stuff they cannot cancel out, they are chunky and pretty just how i wanted them to be, they can give you a bit of a sore head if you have them on for a while, charge quickly and stay charged for a long time (3 days)

The best for this price and almost as good as the XM4
I'm not a person that is a big audiophile or anything like that, but I do love technology and always try to get the best available for the best price. Headphones for me have never justified buying the most recent technological product and spending a lot of money. Back in 2019, I bought my first ANC Headphones, for just £35, the Bluedio T7 Plus, for the price they were amazing, sometimes connection drops a bit but nothing serious, ANC is good enough for the price, battery life is amazing and sound quality for me is good enough. Build quality is also amazing. They don't fold, are a bit on the heavy side and my left ear sometimes warms up a bit, but nothing serious that I need to take them off. But sound wise, ANC and quality is there when you look at the price. Before Christmas I was looking to upgrade to something better and with much better quality, my wife was also interested and searching for Headphones, so after much research I decided to gift her the Sony WH-CH720N white colour, they were on offer for £79.99. After trying them out, I could tell the ANC and sound quality was definitely 10 times better compared to my old and cheap Bluedio, they are very very light which makes them very comfortable. Connection is amazing, no drops or loss of audio quality, ANC is very good. They don't fold and don't include a case. Build quality could be better. At this price point I was impressed, specially the ANC, comfort and sound quality. She loved them and kept them. I decided to spend much more so I could see if the higher prices means much better, and so I bought the Sony WH-1000XM4 for £199, was between these and the newer model XM5, after reading reviews decided to try these and they were also £79 cheaper, I liked them, sound quality was good, ANC hiss was a bit annoying but good as well, they fold and have a case. Considering these costed much more than the WH-CH720N I was expecting much more. The touch controls were horrible, less comfortable, connection lagged some times. Sound quality and ANC were a bit better, but in my opinion nothing that justifies spending and extra £120 for better build quality and a case. If I'm honest the ANC was on par with the WH-CH720N. For this decided to return them and was going to buy the WH-CH720N in black, but at the time they were sold out and couldn't exchange them. This comes to the point where after trying to find alternatives I decided to buy the Soundcore Q35, they were on offer at £75.99, good reviews, almost same price as the WH-CH720N, good features with a case included. What could go wrong? Truth is, everything. Considering these Headphones are supposed to be high end to rival something like the Sony WH-1000XM4 which costed around £300 and they released at a price point of around £130, I was expecting something similar to the XM4, but I wasn't impressed, they are just horrible, connection kept dropping all the time, my ears started going on fire, ANC barely exists, sound quality is basically not good, build quality is bad, I could hear creaking everywhere. To the point I realised, wait a minute, my 5 year old £35 cheap Bluedio have better ANC, sound and build quality than this? How can this be? But it is the reality. In my opinion, it's all marketing and paid reviews to make the product look good when it's not, these Soundcore Q35 are definitely not worth the money. In conclusion, if you are on the market for some good headphones at around £80, I definitely recommend the Sony WH-CH720N, it's not perfect, they don't fold and you need to buy a case. But you definitely get very good ANC, comfort and sound quality for this price, to the point I recommend them over the XM4 due to the price difference. Honestly, the XM4 are not that better and the ANC hiss is annoying.

Perfect for anxious breakdowns 🎧
Based my final purchasing decision with these on a review that said how 'f***ing good' they were. I can wholeheartedly agree with their statement. I get overwhelmed, and I write, sometimes I just need to blot out the world. These do that job spectacularly. They're comfy on my big ol head and ears, including a lot of thick hair, and they stay in place. Battery lasts well, I haven't even needed to charge them up yet and I've had them over a week. They're great everywhere: sat my bedroom, on the bus, at my desk. Recommend 👍

Good noise cancellation headphones with excellent sound quality and battery life
I purchased these Sony WH-CH720N noise cancellation headphones after reading a favourable review in What Hi-Fi magazine. They are good value for money, lightweight and comfortable to wear, and have a decent headband adjustment. But they can make your ears hot if it’s a warm day, and do slip a little if you are exercising. The active noise cancelling (ANC) is good, I don’t think it’s quite as good as the cheaper Anker Q20is which we also have (this could be due to the Anker’s much more padded cups). Also, when wearing glasses I do find the sides of the frames break the ear-cup seal a little over the ear, leading to a slight loss of perfect ANC, without glasses they are spot on. This isn’t so prevalent on the Anker’s as they have a much thicker foam cup. However, the sound quality (when ANC is on) is excellent: superb for both music, podcasts and audiobooks. No other in-ear headphones we own from Apple or Sony come close, and it’s noticeably better than the Anker’s sound. It’s not as good with ANC off, sounding a bit flat, but I always use them with ANC on. I’ve ended up using them much more than anticipated as the sound quality is so good. With high-bit rate MP3s or uncompressed music there is real detail which you’d miss with cheaper headphones. I bought these for two main tasks: to reduce the noise when mowing a large lawn, and for flights – and they’ve been great for both situations. These headphones make aircraft journeys a much more pleasant experience, once you are used to the ANC, it’s easy to forget just how loud the engine noise is in the cabin, taking them off for a few seconds is a good reminder! You don’t have to listen to anything via Bluetooth to use the ANC feature either, so if you just want some peace and quiet, they’ll fulfil that requirement too. If you’ve never used ANC headphones before, it’s important to point out that they don’t make loud situations silent (or virtually silent, unless you are spending thousands on a Bose Aviation headset) - be it in an aircraft or anywhere else with loud drone type noises - but they do reduce a fair proportion of the noise. They more you pay, the better the ANC. The left side features an on-off button which, when clicked, reads out the current battery charge remaining; also this side has the USB-C charging socket and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The right side has a button for the NC modes, then a trio of buttons for volume up, down and select which can be used to play/pause music and answer calls. The buttons are fairly basic and feel quite cheap, but have the basics covered. It’s worth installing the Sony Sound Connect app on your smartphone as you can enable another mode of NC, set-up equalisers, and change the bass settings to get the sound spot on for your preference. Some other little features in the app are for setting up a dual Bluetooth connection so the headphones can be paired with two devices at once; DSEE (upscaling compressed audio); 360 Reality sound via a hearing profile; and setting the auto-power off (useful to change if you want to use them as pure ANC headphones with no audio playing.) Once you’ve tweaked the settings you don’t need to have the app running at all. The battery life is superb, after a 4-hour flight they were still at 90%. You’ll never have to worry about charging them, and just a very short charge will boost the battery for hours. The Bluetooth connection is rock solid and phone calls are crisp, the built-in mics doing a good job. They come with a USB A to C charging cable, but no charger. Also in the box is a 3.5mm headphone male-to-male cable if you don’t want to use Bluetooth (which I’ve not tested). Finally, no case is included either (it's a bit mean not to include a basic soft case Sony!), so if you travel at lot, one may be useful.

Solid choice in this price segment
Bought these for my daughter to replace her AKG Y50BT's. She says the sound is a noticeable improvement over the AKG's and the ANC feature is a bonus. Seems like a good bang for the buck set of headphones.

Pleasantly surprised
This is my first time purchasing this type of product. I was very nervous but am pleased. The noise cancelling works very well. They are soft on my ears. The sound is very clear. They also last a very long time between charging.

Transformed By App
I wasn't that impressed with these headphones till I installed the app. Switching on "DSEE" and setting equaliser to "bright" transformed sound quality. 80s synth music sounds amazing on these headphones. Very happy with these.
