Working as it should. Few things to keep in mind: First, even the slightest separation between magnet and metal will substantially reduce the force of attraction. A thin layer of plastic (plastic wrap!) drops the holding force by about 50% to 75%. Second, if you are using a thinner metal than the one provided the force of attraction will be reduced. How much will depend on the thickness of the metal. So, if the electromagnet is in contact with a 1/4” iron plate it’s almost impossible to pull them apart.

So I had a separate idea / project from what this is intended for. No wasnt securing a perimeter door - rather I made something else... that required I cut with a metal grinder the bar it came with... Long story short - the magnet is strong holding TWO pieces (from the original 1 bar) together and the circuit is straight forward to wire up. Great value and kit you get back!

The electronic magnetic door lock arrived in two days as I paid extra for express shipping. The lock is very heavy duty and comes with most mounting hardware except I used 3" long screws to attach the mounting plate to the door frame. I was surprised to see the 12 volt power supply was NOT included. Maybe I missed that on the description but I just assumed a 12 volt electronic door lock should come with the power source.

This isn't strong electromagnet I will give it that. Although keep in mind this thing needs to be almost perfectly lined up and really can be a pain in the ass. If you're set up is somewhat custom, I'm sure it works great for doors that fit perfectly and everything is ready to go. But if you're or not completely flush using factory milled materials which come together flawlessly, you may not be happy with this magnet as it's caused me more grief than benefit. It finally gave up the ghost after a long time of use and abuse and as I said it was a strong magnet and while it worked was good. However, I can't recommend it based on the fact you're probably better off with a solenoid latch or something else as magnet locks can really be difficult. I understand their views quite heavily in security doors and that the concept is highly understandable and preferred. However, these things can cause many issues. I mean what if your primary power goes and your battery is not holding adequate charge. Your door is open. That doesn't sound very secure to me now. Of course battery backup should be employed and in many times it is. But what if it fails? What if your backup battery is not holding a charge or simply has a loose connection? That's why for high security I would say a latching solenoid deadbolt lock would be highly Superior to this. MarkMannM2

Update: The seller reached out to me and sent me a replacement for the defective maglock that I had received. The replacement does work, but does not have the holding strength that was expected from the 600 lbs specs. Original review: When I install the magnetic lock it did not even have enough resistance to hold the door shut when I gently pushed on it. After rechecking the wiring and voltage, I confirmed that it was indeed receiving 12-volts to the lock. I am waiting to see if my message to the seller is responded to. The User Manual (which is downloadable via a .pdf file, states that there is a 1 year warranty from the date of sale, but there was no phone number, website address, or email address listed.
