I still have the glass (fully intact) but does anyone know what to use to reattach it? - glue? adhesive tape/pads? etc.

It just pushes back / clicks back on. Ensuring the wires are connected first if it’s a heated one. If none of the attaching side is damaged it should push on

Does this come with backing tape or do I have to glue it myself??? Just the mirror fell off not the backing unit

It's come fitted allready on the bracket,and the cables for heat, all you need to do,remove the old one from your car with the brachet,and put new one,dont forget to conect the cable,thats all,easy. For any doubs just look on youtube how to replace a mirror 5 min video.you welcome

Does this heat the whole mirror like a genuine VW mirror or just part of it?

I can't really answer that question. As when I received this product it actually didn't fit. It was a few mm too big on the curve. Hence I had to buy one from auto parts.
