Some patients may be able to decrease the dosage or even discontinue their high blood pressure medications altogether while taking CoQ10 (after consultation with a physician). •“Statin” medications can lower body levels of CoQ10, an important antioxidant involved in cellular energy production. Though we don’t yet know the benefits, supplemental CoQ10 can restore these levels in the body. CON •Only about 50% of people who take CoQ10 will experience an improvement in blood pressure, and it can take up to four to eight weeks to occur. •The side effects associated with CoQ10 are mostly gastrointestinal, such as stomach upset, nausea, and diarrhea. It may also cause a skin rash in some people. •Replacing the CoQ10 lost while taking a “statin” cholesterol lowering medicine is without proven benefit. * *ADVISORY* * CoQ10 may lower blood sugar levels, and it should be monitored in patients with diabetes or patients taking medications or supplements that are known to lower blood sugar. Blood pressure must be monitored with the use of CoQ10. Caution is advised in people who have bleeding disorders or who are taking drugs that increase risk of bleeding, such as aspirin. For example, patients on CoQ10 are usually asked to discontinue use one week prior to surgery. There may be a drug interaction between CoQ10 and Warfarin (Coumadin) that reduces the effects of Warfarin. For this and many other reasons, patients need to discuss the use of CoQ10 with their medical provider. DOSAGE:For the treatment of high blood pressure, take 100 mg of CoQ10 twice a day. For statin induced low CoQ10 levels, take 100 to 200 mg once daily. CONCLUSION:We conclude that CoQ10 is a safe and effective product for the treatment of high blood pressure. While it shows promise for treating low CoQ10 levels associated with the use of statin medications, there is not enough evidence for us to recommend this indicated use. Remember to include it in your list of medications when you visit your doctor and other health care providers. COq10 is also good when taking prohormones or when supplementing with Red Yeast Rice. Red Yeast Rice depletes the body's COq10 so supplementation is recommended.

Great product, good price, works as well as expected

I am very happy with all the Swanson products I use-especially the 200 mg CoQ10. I have used other brands that are more expensive, and I didn't feel as much benefit as I do from this product. I trust Swanson to offer products that have been tested for purity and efficacy.

The product is affordable. I've only been taking it for a few days but it seems to be effective. The pills are a bit bigger than expected. I wish it came in a soft gel.
