The blanket has a cover so when the blanket is folded in the cover it may be used as a pillow. In other words, you can use it as a pillow or a blanket, but not both at the same time unless you stuff something else into the cover while you’re using the blanket. I will say this blanket was very nice and soothing to have on a trip
