Well made and discreet
*I got this bowl to help my dog from eating too fast and then throwing up. He doesn't do it often but he doesn't it often enough for me to worry that he could get bloat. He's a 15 lb Maltese terrier mix (bit overweight, he could probably be 13 or 14 lbs). I also got it for my adolescent cat who is about 8-9 lbs (and will probably be about 10-11 fully grown). The cat eats so fast and gets gassy from it. Plus, he bullies the dog to eat his food. Pictures are included to show you the size of my pets and the sizes of their snouts. It came in an easy to recycle box and the sticker at the bottom was easy to remove. That fact that it was on the bottom pleased me since I don't want him eating stickers. Speaking of the bottom, it has nice rubber on it to protect my floors and to keep them from sliding. Plus, it has a nice weight to it. I put it on its side in the washer before use and it looked great coming out. Heavy duty plastic resin seems like quality stuff that will stand the test of time. "White" color is actually a shade of beige. The shape looks like the picture, perhaps the color a shade lighter, like cream or ivory.I feed both my dog and cat 1/4 cup of dry and wet food twice a day (half a cup total), sometimes with a small snack late at night. That 1/4 fills the crevices of the bowl without it being heaping. I thought it was great since it makes my dog work for his food. I also bought the xs for my cat since he has short snout. I thought it made the xs a little too easy looking to eat out of for the dog but perfect for the cat. I wasn't sure which size either would like, which is why I bought both.Turns out both like the extra small one. The small was too much of a challenge for my dog. He's snout is a bit too short to reach, and while he a fast eater he is not tenacious. After making the bowl heaping-ly full to encourage the dog to transition to that bowl he refused to use it but lied down pathetically next to it, waiting for me give him something else to eat. I poured the contents of his small bowl into the extra small and he ate. The bowl worked (yay!) and he definitely slowed down. Finger hole at the size of the bowl make it easy for people to pick it up. I didn't even bother with the small for the cat because my assumptions about his snout were correct - perfect size for him. Even with his tenacious food habits he still has to work to get it.I like this product! I'd definitely recommend it to others. I'm actually thinking of getting the small for mother-in-law's cats. I upgraded my rating from 4 stars to 5.*This post was edited to include my cat, pictures, and my upgraded rating.

Slow feeder
I already have 2 bowls like this, and my dogs love them. They were cheaper to get here than the local pet store. The slow-feeder bowls definitely cut down their eating time. These are made of a hard plastic, pretty durable. I've dropped them on occasion and haven't broken one yet. Love all the colors you get to choose from.

It slowed down our big boy just enough...
We've been using this for some time now, and I can only speak to our favorable experience with this bowl and a larger breed dog compared to some neg reviews concerning smaller dogs. We have a 100 lb. Bernese Mountain dog who has always gulped, wolfed, inhaled, etc. his food down in about 10 seconds flat (honestly, sometimes even faster). We tried a lot of different tricks and tactics to slow him down, but he's always been very determined and neurotic about his dinner time (like it's a mission or something) and getting it down asap. The last few years he had developed some stomach and intestinal gas issues and a weird phenomena sometimes identified as "the gulps", which we finally researched down (help of our vet as well) to his gulping his food (way too fast) along with a couple/few large gulps of air, which then all expanded in his stomach and intestines. That of course gave us a huge fear of "bloat" which these dogs are really susceptible too, and his constant getting 'the gulps', this new bowl was really our last hope of him independently eating and slowing down. The hardest part about this bowl for us was picking what size (med or large?) would work best for him to slow down but still be able to eat without struggling to get his snout in there. I nervously picked the medium with the idea he would be able to get his mouth/snout just in far enough to open and get his tongue (his is pretty long) to lap/scoop out the food and not gulp much. The overriding need was for him to slow down, so as long as he could get all the food out it seemed like it would work. It's amazing how small an area animals can get their mouths and tongues into positions to get at something, especially if it's food. The bowl was shipped quickly, and I have to say I was impressed with how well built and attractive it is for the cost. Nothing is indestructible if a chewing dog were to abuse it, but compared to any regular or standard food bowls (plastic I mean) this bowl is definitely heavy duty quality made. We have been using it for quite a while now and it has been quite an improvement for him and us. At first he was slowed down almost a minute but he's since learned a few tricks on moving around certain ways, and that dang tongue is like an anteater. Anyway, he still takes 3 times longer to eat his food, which gets him to chew a little more, and less air being taken in, which has really wiped out after dinner "the gulps" episodes, and his burps (yeah we burp the big boy out of habit) are less air as well. It has really helped us and him a lot. It's a really good and very reasonably priced product from our use and experience. Very happy with it!

Solid construction with 50% success rate.
I have two dogs who both scarf down their food in record time. They have been this way their entire lives and so far it hasn't created any serious issues though I wanted to nip this in the bud before they did. One of my dogs does occasionally hack up some food from eating too fast but its pretty rare so this was probably overdue. First off they are really nice bowls. They are really thick and heavy and include a rubber strip at the bottom to prevent sliding. As dog bowls they are 5-star. Why the 4-star rating? Well they work on one dog but not the one that has the hacking problem. He doesn't seem phased by the bowl at all. Although it does slightly extend his eating time, it's only because he eats the first 95% of it normally and then it takes him a little longer to get those last few pieces. However it does work on the other dog who has noticeably slowed down his eating so the bowls do work. Since they are such nice bowls I'm still happy with my purchase. I'll just eventually get a more complicated one for him in the future.
