碎米芽菜 Sichuan Yibin SuiMi Yacai Fermented Mustard 8.1 oz (Pack of 5)

What in the world is Fermented Mustard? It is a nice addition to many Chinese dishes. In this case, I used it for Schezwan Green Beans. It adds a lot of flavor to the dish. It's a bit hard to find in town and you have to do a lot of searching to find it. Pretty easy to find on Amazon. There are 5 big packs too so it's a lot of value for the money.

An absolutely delicious product

I live in an area that you'd think this would be easy to find but it's not. I use this for dan dan noodles which is delicious.

It's too salty. I had to soak it and make it less salty. But it's also bitter, which I could not do anything about it.

Received product and was expired for 6 months.

It’s very very salty. I can barely eat a small spoonful with rice. Maybe it’s meant to be this salty? But how on earth are we supposed to eat this in very small portions with rice if it’s this inedible? Are there recipes? I wouldn’t recommend it unless you grew up eating this and know how to prepare it, I guess.

I like Chinese preserved mustard - I eat it often, with rice, in soup. etc. This particular variation of it was extremely bitter, super-salty, and nasty. It ruined every meal but one that I used it on. In the end I had to throw away the last three bags of the stuff. I wish I could figure out what I did in the one meal when it wasn't so bad. But in the end it's easier just to buy a different, less obnoxious brand, even if it costs a little more.

Review its product I used once seems silly, but when I added this to the ground pork per this recipe the aroma was strikingly delicious. If you’re familiar with yacai you probably already know this, so the other aspects are it came well packaged and on time.
