Strong and very deep
Deeper and stronger than my other root trainers. Remains to be seen how easy it is to get out the sweet peas come spring but the hole at the bottom of each cell is a good size and if you wait for a strong enough root growth, I wouldn’t anticipate a problem.

Really good bit of kit
Fantastic bit of kit I wish I had found them years ago. Sterdy and deep. Very good for the money. The size of the trays is surprisingly big. I will definitely buy again

Sturdy and does the job
These seem good quality and potentially very durable- the should serve for several years. I would have awarded 5 stars but I found it difficult to extract young bean plants without breaking up the root ball, somewhat defeating the object of using the planter in the first place. For me, the end of a thick bamboo cane worked best but I think the supplier should provide a short piece of wood of appropriate dimensions, perhaps resembling the end of a broom handle.I would have given the product the desired 5 stars.

I also put a little piece of kitchen paper over the large holes in the bottom to stop the compost falling through when I watered
I was a bit worried about using these as they weren't the opening out type I had used before. I also put a little piece of kitchen paper over the large holes in the bottom to stop the compost falling through when I watered - that worked and I got particularly good germination from the four different varieties of climbing and runner beans I tried , even the ones I saved myself from last year's beans. They were a bit tricky to get out of the modules as I anticipated- had a carefully push them up with a wooden seed dibber - but I only lost one plant and the others have already started to grow away well after planting last week - no slug damage, which is the sign of a healthy plant. The root trainers will live to fight another day as well as they are sturdily constructed and didn't tear when I removed the plants. Very satisfied👍

Great seed tray
I've been really pleased with this product. I have used it to grow runner bean plants. The trays are pretty sturdy. I found once they were filled with compost it was good to support them. I used a large gravel tray. The hole underneath is not a problem, compost doesn't fall through. The plants eased out pretty easily. I have fairly small hands and was able to push through the hole with my finger. a piece of dowel would work. The root formation is great, as you can see in my photos. I'll use them again next year.

Love/Hate.
Started off my peas in these new deep cell trays. Peas started well and grew sufficiently to put them in the ground. Looked very healthy in the trays. When I took the first one from the cell I was amazed at the wonderful root system it had developed. I really was awestruck by the root the pea had developed. But . . . . . . . . . there has to be a but . . . .. . . getting the wonderfully rooted pea plant out of the cell was very difficult. I ended up cutting the cell to get the plant out thereby rendering the cell tray unusable for the future. The deep cell trays are a splendid idea. They work, but a little more technology needed to enable people like me to remove the plants from the cells without damaging the whole of the tray.

Not very strong
They seemed to be packed quite well but the top layer was damaged as they had been jammed into bottom layer

Very good value
These may be more expensive that the plug tray you might buy in a garden centre, but they are sturdy and will last years. I have planted out the first lot of brassicas and lettuce that I have brought on in these trays and they were hardy healthy plants with strong roots. They are quite large though - not standard gravel tray size. Unless you have flat staging you may want to do what I did and invest in a growbag gravel tray. In mine I have two of the root trainer trays and two smaller module trays (also from Nutley's).
