There is a slightly pleasant odor to it. I've always followed it up with a good hand soap after the oils, grease, and grime where cleansed off by this product.

How strong compared to the original Gojo pump cleaner that did not contain abrasives?

This is the best hand cleaner that I believe is out there. It will clean anything off your hands without major scrubbing. That said, it isn't hard on your hands, and it doesn't dry your hands out.
