Star Trek Deep Space Nine: The Full Journey [DVD]

This is a great set to buy for all Star Trek lovers and Sci-Fi fans in general. Deep Space Nine is very different from the other series in the franchise as it takes place aboard a space station, instead of a starship which was the main feature in the other four series. It's not about a crew going off where no one has gone before as they were fixed to a certain location, with the series concentrating more on social development, social issues, politics, intrigue and mystery. This is the best series for viewers who like serialised shows as DS9 has on-going storylines throughout the whole series whereas the other Trek series are more episodic. The stories are more in-depth than the other series as well, being very character driven and exploring internal conflicts as well as external ones. The show gets darker and more serious as it progresses and at one point I found myself watching several episodes one after the other because of how gripping it was. I love the episodes about the war with the dominion and the series has some brilliantly developed villains, interesting themes and sometimes unexpected and shocking twists. The earlier seasons to do with the Changelings (beings who can change shape into any form) were a great idea and they made for some very powerful and solid episodes. DS9 has delivered some of the best stories Trek ever produced when it is at it's best, sometimes resembling what can be seen in movies. It's probably the most epic of all the Star Trek series, the CGI is outstanding. While TNG has and always will be my favourite of the Star Trek series, it's easy to see why so many love DS9. I can understand why certain people regard it as their favourite, it's an amazing series. When reviewing this box-set I have watched every episode up to the seventh season story "The Siege Of AR-558", a very good episode. Below I list my ten favourite stories of the entire series up to the point I am at: 1 - Rocks And Shoals (Season 6) 2 - The Way Of The Warrior, Parts 1 And 2 (Season 4) 3 - The Die Is Cast (Season 3) 4 - Duet (Season 1) 5 - In Purgatory's Shadow/By Inferno's Light (Season 5) 6 - In The Pale Moonlight (Season 6) 7 - Crossover (Season 2) 8 - Homefront/Paradise Lost (Season 4) 9 - Hard Time (Season 4) 10 - Trials And Tribble-Ations (Season 5) The Picture quality of the actual DVD's is good and clear, the sound is also great. The only aspect that could be improved is the way the DVD's are kept. There is an individual box for each season of the show and the DVD's for all the seasons are slotted in cardboard sleeves. This isn't the best design as the DVD's will be scratched over time and it will cause the episodes to freeze and jump. It is not a massive problem as there have only been a few episodes where I have experienced this, however in some cases the DVD's just needed cleaning. This facet should not stop you from buying this collection as if you handle the DVD's carefully, the damage to the disks should only be minimal. Other than the poor slot housing design, the cases for the DVD's are excellent with screenshots of episodes from each of the seasons, along with episode listings and additional data which is special-features. Overall this is a stunning box-set featuring every episode of DS9, a brilliant series and one that looks splendid next to the other Star Trek series on the shelf. This is an absolute must buy if you are a Star Trek fan or love great storytelling and Science-Fiction. So go and transport this box-set home and experience the full journey of this TV masterpiece.

I must admit I've never really watched DS9 during it's original run on TV. I've seen odd episodes, but never really got into it. I've bought slimline boxsets few years ago and started watching from the beginning. I must say that DS9 has got definitely best character and story development among all Star Trek series. Watching progress of adventures and relations of characters is really interesting. In DS9 theres room for marriages, deaths, father-son relationship, friendships and interesting twists and turns of main story. Characters are very natural and real, not like comic book heroes. DS9 offers very good sci-fi and drama in one. I really enjoyed continuity, although most of the episodes are stand alone stories series have very good recurring characters and storylines throughout all of it's run. My definite favourite characters are Bashir and O'Brien, I also enjoyed Quark and more comedic ferengi episodes :). Recommended series not only for sci-fi fans though first season seems pretty boring, later it gets much better. In many ways best Star Trek series, there's quite few brilliant episodes. Many people complains about "Full Journey" boxsets. I just love them. Bought all Star Trek series as "Full Journey" and got rid of my old slimline editions. Space saving, lovely designed, all boxes looks just beautiful. Sturdy box (about 7 standard DVD cases thick) dominated by black and green colours with DS9 space station at the front and Star Trek logo. Each series packaged in beautifully designed cardboard sleeves containing usually 7 DVDs in slots. People say that it's easy to scratch and cheap. I've just finished watching all discs and my DVDs are working well, there's no significant scratches, just handle them carefully and everything should be alright. I had no problems at all. Prefer "Full Journey" than old bulky boxsets. Now my Star Trek collection looks decent and tidy. Feel very happy for saving lots of space on my shelf. Best looking edition!

In my opinion the best of the new wave of star trek series, there is more depth to both narrative and characters,more politics and social development due to the fixed location, not zooming of for an adventure every 5 minutes allows for more depth. This box set is good value but as reported by other users the disks can be unreliable, i am into the eighth episode of season one and already there is an episode that wont play all the way through,i cleaned the disk several times with a cloth and approved fluid but no it just wont complete, it fails five minutes before the end which is frustrating and since there is well over 100 episodes to go it does not auger well for the rest of the series viewing As feared i have had to return the set,i made the arrangements today 19 sep 2013,more episodes sticking and skipping and never got past season 1, amazon were fine about it and in fact were very helpful, so no criticism of their after sales service.

This is not your Fathers Star Trek. The days of James T. Kirk have grown up. Not even the Next Generation series was as brilliantly written and filmed as Deep Space Nine. This series was a novel written for TV. A continuous story about a new Lt Ben Sisko as the first Federation officer taking command of a large space station for the Federation Of Planets. His beginnings are shaky trying to get used to a new command and his new home, DS9, located out in deep space, very far from Earth. Sisko soon finds his place with his staff and they slowly become more like a family in surreal surroundings. ST:DS9 has everything that a good novel should have. Love, hate, peace, war, duty, mystery, intrigue, wonderment, quality special effects, and friendship. Over time, we see every one of these aspects. We get to know each of the perfectly casted characters as if they are our own friends, and yes, enemies. We feel their pain, and their triumphs. In essence, Deep Space Nine becomes home, and the casts are our neighbors and friends who we care about. This series is not a video game designed around the special effects. Although there will be some good action and adventure, it is not the constant action adventure of the other Star Trek series. DS9 is a darker story about the characters and their lives. It is about the loyalty of duty and friends. It is about freedom and patriotism. It's about families. It is about many alien races working together, fighting in a common cause for the benefit of everyone. This series had a good budget which shows in the quality of the scripts, lavish sets, and very good special effects. Before the series ends, you will have laughed, cried, jumped for joy in victories, sat on the edge of your seat many times, and pounded your fist in hate and frustration for the bad guys. You can't help yourself. The stories draw you in like a dream you don't want to wake up from, just so you don't miss anything. My only regret at the end was that it ended. But as they say, all good things must come to an end. Deep Space Nine is for the true trekkie at heart that loves everything about the Star Trek universe. If that describes you, then DS9 will not disappoint you. I have watched this series in TV reruns maybe 5 or 6 times, and yet I just purchased the series on DVD. Am I crazy? Maybe a little, but I like to look at myself as a true fan, and a dreamer. UPDATE: Bad but a happy ending..... Most of the discs had problems with skipping, freeze frames, and many episodes would not finish playing near the end. I returned the set to the seller and got a refund. Then, I repurchased the series from an different seller, and found the same flaws in exactly the same time marks on the same disc number and episodes. I just returned the new set for another refund. Then I purchased the series direct from Amazon on sale. When I got the replacement, I noticed it was packaged differently. And every episode was much higher quality and without defects of any kind. Then it dawned on me that the packages I got from other dealers were either poor illegal copies, or much older repackaged defective packs being sold cheaper. Either way, be aware of this. Alawys buy directly from Amazon or only sellers that are fullfilled by Amazon. Many sellers get illegal copies packaged to look like the real thing, but they are not. But Amazon direct sales are always the real thing.

Excellent quality set. Arrived after only one week in transit, not the anticipated three weeks. The cases, packaging, discs, and retianers were all in perfect condition. The diminished quality noted by previous customers can be explained by the fact that the series was originally filmed on tape. The change to digital also copied the flaws of the original recording. Viewing the series on a 55" LG HDTV means you can see the grainy film quality, but it's easily dismissed knowing how it was recorded. Absolutely no complaints about this purchase. If I wanted to buy another set from this vendor (Sold by SJ.I ), I certainly would. Five star quality, 100% satisfaction.

The quality of the show in question is amazing, but as for the product I really dislike how they pack blu-ray, the disks can get all loose in shipping, they came all undamaged but the plastic case which the disks came is damaged, the outer shell is cracked in the first to fourth season package and the shell of the fifth to seventh season has has a four by four cm missing plastic piece in the outer shell. Though I'm yet to buy a blu-ray tv show that arrives without cosmetic damages on the shells and is not made of the worst plastic ever, so this seem like a standard practice. Also I wish the disks for each season were different color or at least better to read, they decided on light blue on white, while it is readable, certainly doesn't make a good contrast

Sin duda alguna es mi favorita, desde los personajes y su evolución, los escenarios y la historia que tiene cierta continuidad entre los episodios, Vic Fontaine, la guerra con el Dominion y mas la hacen una excelente serie. Este paquete lo que ofrece son las 7 temporadas completas en ingles únicamente tanto en audio como en subtítulos, son 47 DVDs y el empaque de los discos es deficiente, suelen llegar discos sueltos y se pueden rayar con facilidad. Esta edición es de 2017 y ya hay muy pocas en el mercado, quien sabe cuando vuelvan a sacar una nueva edición así que si eres FAN yo te recomiendo que la compres.
