Bosch Garden Turbine Shredder AXT 25 TC

I don't mind pushing a lawn mower around, but absolutely hate with a passion doing my privet hedges - it's not the hacking away at them, it's getting rid of everything afterwards. And they just keep growing up and up and wider and wider each year so they are harder to do, and get done less frequently - its a horrible cycle. This year, during the heatwave, I decided to have a 'once in 20 years' cut back to thin the width by 2 feet and chop the top off about 3-4 feet, and was left with piles of woody branches almost filling the garden up. And then how to get rid of them? They certainly wouldn't fit in my single council green-waste bin, a bonfire was out of the question, and having had a shredder before I knew that wouldn't cope. I was effectively looking at paying someone a lot of money to take them away... So I stressed over it for days, watching dozens of videos on YouTube, reading reviews online, and this Bosch seemed just that step above every other domestic shredder/chipper - expensive sure, but the rotating turbine offered me at least some hope that it would be up to the job. Arrived quickly, large heavy box that was at least easy to open, and all that I needed to do was quickly fit the top part in place (just clipped in and then turn the knob a few times). 8 hours later I have now got 4 wheelie bins full of wood chippings and heat-stroke! But the Bosch never missed a beat, it didn't jam once or trip the fuse in the extension cord, it just chopped away and took everything that I could throw at it. Many shredders have very narrow openings at the top to prevent sticking in large branches, this is the same but they restriction is a set of fins which means you can easily wrestle the wide tops of privet branches in there. I am really made up with this product, it did exactly what I needed it to do and although expensive to initially buy it saved at least half the money in the first day as I was being quoted a minimum of £200 for the removal of the cuttings. Online reviews indicate it should be reliable and last a long time - it is easy to clean up afterwards so that is a bonus too. Overall, I can't recommend this enough, going forward it will make disposal of the cuttings so much easier.

I've used this for several 30-40 minute shredding sessions so far. It works very well for woody material. It's not the right machine for heaps of small, light stuff like hedge clippings that you want to put in by the bucket-load, this is for feeding in one or a few woody stems at a time, eg from trimming back your shrubbery, with or without leaves on the stems. It produces quite a coarse output, which I use to dress the backs of borders. It works as well as I had hoped, so better than I expected. I do use ear defenders, but more from habit than necessity, it's surprisingly quiet, probably quieter than many lawnmowers. If it jams, which it hasn't often done, it has always unjammed itself by use of the reverse button. If it gets clogged up, you just undo one big knob to expose the cutting chamber so you can clear it. Sometimes bits of wood get stuck in the cutter but they're generally easy to dislodge with a big screwdriver. I'm used to using a 6.5HP petrol shredder, but with a smaller garden now I'm happy to give that up for this, which is much quieter when running and much easier to maintain. A nice solid tool, well worth the money.

Very good shredder, but you won't end up with a very fine mulch if that's what you're after. I'm leaving a review because of the wheels. The wheelbase is very narrow, so you have to be careful and alert when moving the shredder as it sways side to side, which could lead to it tipping over, which I'm sure wouldn't do it any good, especially as some reviewers have had problems with the collection box breaking. You can't use it without the collection box, because it won't work. Rubber wheels on a wider wheelbase would help. Looks like replacing the turbine blades will be expensive and not a DIY task which is a shame. But it is good and deals with woody materials and softer green stuff well.

After battling with an old, normal bladed, shredder for years, having to store it all for months to dry it before it would shred.....this has been life changing! No exaggeration.....this has made such a difference.... The turbine blade is incredibly powerful, pulling through and devouring thick branches and soft green ones with ease. The noise is very quiet. I do not need ear protection at all. it has a satisfying 'crunch, crunch, crunch ' as a branch passes through. The entrance port is well designed, and strong, allowing awkward shapes through, where others would not, yet preventing oversized branches. Clear, large, green on/red off rubber buttons. I think there's also one to reverse the munching, crunching turbine, but I have not needed this (which says a lot!!). Wheels to move around, though I keep mine permanently ready in my shed for convenience. The collection box is large and holds a l lot of shredded material. The machine stops if this is removed, ideal for safety. The collection box is an easy size to move around and carry and is sturdy. The unit can be collapsed down for even neater storage, but i leave mine up all the time, as it's so easy just to pop in whatever you've cut down on a whim. The plunger tool is useful if light material (greenery) hasn't gone through, but mostly the next bit of slightly woody stem does the job for you. It has got bunged only when I've tried to push my luck and put in loads of very green, soft garden waste, with no woodiness to it. It did take it, with just a small amount of prodding. It really is outstanding.....and i rarely say that. It's my favourite thing to use in the garden as it is a pleasure, all round. On every level. I recommend it without reservation to anyone who can afford to do so. You'll be glad you spent the extra, as the time (and aggravation !)it saves are repaid very quickly :-) I've used it, perhaps, 5 times for big batches and, perhaps, 50 times for a few armfuls of hedge cuttings, and i look around wondering what else i can cut....i love it that much! If you need any more convincing....in the words of Mrs Doyle.....go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on!

A superb brutal beast of a machine. Extremely easy to set up despite the massive multi country manual. You literally just clip the funnel on and that is it. A beautifully simple rotating multi blade makes easy work of my branches and green waste - I am fed up with our council's hopeless brown bin service and was looking for a solution. This, and my compost heap is that solution. It produces a lovely tray of chippings. Super safe to use, as you cannot get anything into the chute and it comes with a plastic pusher to get things down if needed. Has its own large tray to collect the chippings/waste. An excellent purchase.

Having used big petrol shredders/munchers in the past I was reserved about how the electric bosch would compare. I needn't have worried, it's very impressive! Run all day with no problems, chopping 40mm branches with ease, even knarley ones! Noise wasn't too bad (lots quieter than I expected). For moving it over rough ground I used a sack barrow as it can get a bit wobbly on its own narrow wheels. The only niggle (& this being really pedantic) is the cable tidy hooks are very small. Overall, a very well built, strong, sturdy machine that's well worth the asking price. 10/10.

This is a bit of a beast with my only criticism being that smaller leafier end of green branches can wrap around the shredder mechanism though this still doesn’t seem to stop it from working. If you do have mainly more slender / leafier branches then this maybe overkill!

As others have said, this is not a shredder! As such, it is being mis-sold! It chops at a very sedate pace - around 2 chops a second. It does this relatively quietly. It has a series of rotating knife blades which have a scissor action against a fixed block. These rotate slowly, chopping as they go. The blades are not sharp enough to chop through leaves or thin branches. These get passed through pretty much un-scathed, with small branches intact and sometimes a little stripped of their bark. Imagine a pair of blunt shears trying to chop leaves or thin branches - they just get squeezed between the blades. Well that's in effect what you have here. At worst, you'll get thin branches and leaves wound around the blades because it just isn't sharp enough to cut them. What this does well, is wood chipping, but only with anything over around 4mm. The resulting chips are around 1.5cm in length. It's very large, very heavy and cumbersome to shift around, even on its wheels. The mains cable tidy is ridiculous and the cable easily falls off as the 'shredder' is moved around. The bin is not fixed firmly enough when in place and so the motor cut-out operates regular as the bin slides out due to vibration. If you want a garden shredder, avoid this chipper, it is not a garden shredder and you'll be disappointed with the results. If you want a wood chipper that can't take leaves or small branches, then this could be for you. I used my previous proper B&D shredder to get leaves and branches ready for my compost heap. This isn't suitable for that job at all. So I'm very disappointed with this expensive monster! The overall design is poorly though out, it doesn't shred and it certainly is not good value for money!
