Amazing game
Never played a monster hunter game but heard good reviews on it, and gave it a try. I am very happy with it and can easily see myself playing 50+ hours on it. Lots of quests and you get to make gear and weapons out of the monsters you kill/capture. Also there is bonus stats for a full set ect. Also the behavior of the monsters is very interesting like they limp away when you hurt them so much, and you have to chase them through different areas. There is a very strong tactical and strategic element to the game as the monsters have several attacks and they are mostly randomly performed but with tell tell sighs that you pick up on when you have killed them multiple times. ( which you will need to do if you want a set of armour) There are 12 weapon types with different combos and a special powerup attack or power mode you need to charge. Each weapon can be upgraded many times often giving you the choice between several different choices. Also the many traps like electric trap and pitfall traps are very good and further the strategic element of the game. the only one draw back i have with this game is the extremely hard to use camera on the 3DS.. You have to press on the touchscreen part with your right hand thumb which means you cant press the x,a,y buttons used for combat. I hear there is an addon for the 3DS which negates this experience but costs 16ยฃ no thanks... You can get used to it after a while. Overall there is so much in this game to do, there is no other game on 3DS that I have owned that I spent more time on than this game.. I have spent 22 hours so far got a few armour sets got a nice longsword that does lightning damage and looks like chainsaw blade... so good... lol. Id like to add ive not even scratched the surface of the game like theres a different area which has harder quests and access to harder monsters which you should only do with good gear and experience. There is also online play which i cant use but you can play with up to 4 people and take on bosses. It is scaled down if you have to solo like me :) Hope I didnt go on too much and I hope you find this useful.

Monster Hunter Review
Monster Hunter to me Is one of those games that requires two or more attempts to get into if you're just the casual player of games. It's a very unique game in essence and I can only really relate it to something like dark souls in terms of gameplay because each weapon requires a bit of time to learn how to use properly like the greatsword which deals massive damage but can only be swung two or three times during a combo and is very slow and clunky. A longsword on the other hand is very fast, able to land multiple hits in a combo but is much weaker and requires that build up the swords power in a bar on the top screen in order to use it to it's full potential. MH Is definitely a good game but not something for those that are impatient or those that are looking for some thought provoking and well written plot (as there is no general plot.) It's a game that gives you what it says, there are monsters and you hunt them. Playing this with friends (4 max) adds to it substantially as you can all team up to take down the much much stronger monsters that you may be struggling with on your own. A worthy purchase for those looking for challenging missions and multilayer fun.

Exactly what i was hoping for
This game is fantastic! It has a huge selection of monsters to hunt, and all weapon types are unlocked, so you won't get bored using just a couple of weapon types over and over. This game has endless hours worth of playtime to those people who are willing to spend the time on this game, which i highly recommend! Having played both the original and MHF2, i can happily say this is the best one yet, and easily the best one to start with if you are new to the series. The only real downside to this game is not really in the game itself, but the hand cramping you may end up getting for periods of extended use, and the touch screen camera control instead of a second joystick can be a little awkward at times. However it is still completely playable, and you can always get the Circle Pad Pro extension for your 3ds, which adds on a joystick to the side, so that you don't have to use the touchscreen. For those of you who have played previous generations of this game, the old monsters that are in this version have been fully updated with new attacks and AI, while still retaining the old feel. You will NOT be disappointed by this game! For the newer players, the game can be a bit tedious at the start, as the quests you are given are usually about gathering or hunting smaller monsters, but if you can bear through that then you will get into HUGE amount of fun that is hunting GIANT MONSTERS. My favourite game series of all time *****

Okay if you buy the Circle Pad Pro aswell
When i was considering buying this initially i was warned off it. I was told that to play the game you either needed to play it on the Wii U or buy the Circle Pad Pro attachment. Seeing as the game description made no mention of the Circle Pad i figured i'd give it a gamble, and sadly it didn't pay off. Without the circle Pad Pro you have to be an octopus to play the game with any competency. I found the game very hard to navigate and get around, and felt i was having to fight the camera more than i was the monsters. without the Circle Pad this game really aught be called the Camera Hunter. The problem with the Circle Pad is it's an expensive addon that very few games use, so it has little additional useage out of it making it not a worth while purchase. I've given the game 3 stars since from what i saw, it would be a good game to play, IF you have the circle pad, or if nintendo had done the sensible thing and added that 2nd thumb pad. I've returned it and picked up Bravely Default instead which has been amazing

Good game, terrible Amazon.
I played the original Monster Hunter on the PS2 and absolutely loved it. Much later on i played Monster Hunter Freedom on the PSP and absolutely loved it. The first time I went onto the Nintendo shop on my 3DS I saw a demo for this, downloaded it and loved it. I then looked on Amazon for a release date and it turned out it was out the next day. Brilliant, lets pre-order it and hope the price fluctuates so then I only have to pay the lowest price it went to before release. My original thought was that if the game is released the next day then there's a chance it might be dispatched the next day as well. Well was I wrong. Being a student, I live away from home. But we have broken up for Easter so i decided to have the game posted home since I would be there for 3 weeks. Not a few days after pre-ordering, I got an email saying the delivery date is estimated to now be around mid April. I was confused, angry and upset. I really wanted to play this game again. So I decided just to wait, obviously there was high demand for the game. I recently got another email saying the delivery estimate will be at the start of April and for the past few days the item in my 'Orders' has been on 'Dispatching Soon'. I chose the 'Free Super Saver Delivery' which is 3-5 days delivery. It is now 6 days on and it hasn't even been dispatched yet. If it arrives on the estimate I might of well have had it delivered to my accommodation at Uni. Thing is, I know if i cancelled my order and re-ordered it again it would dispatch probably tomorrow. So if you have read my rant, I do not slate the game in any way. I have always enjoyed Monster Hunter and can't wait to play this one. But Amazon on the other hand, you have let me down big time on this occasion. Not happy.

Favourite Game
Ok so first of all i'd like to reccomend this game to anyone who likes difficult games. That's exactly what you're gonna get. People normally look down on this title because they only pick it up and play for 5 to 10 hours and see that the gameplay mechanics are hard to get used to and they give up on it. I had a difficult time getting used to it too at first and it was quite frustrating but i still kept playing because i knew i would get better and i knew that there was so much more to the game than those first 10 hours, since this game is packed with content. It is one of the most fun and challenging games ever. I can never get bored of it. I have over 2000+ hours of gameplay on the previous titles and so far i got 90+ on this one. If you like thrilling action from fighting massive monsters, this is the best game for you. Would recommend it to anyone who likes action/adventure video games

A great game for the 3DS!
The game is a great entrance to the monster hunter series, it's a lot easier than it's earlier counterparts on the PSP. The games very similar to Monster Hunter Tri on the Wii, with a few added features and monsters, it feel's good on the 3DS XL but i WOULDNT recommend getting it for the non XL 3DS as alot goes on in the game and you need quite a big screen to be able to see it all. Fan's of the monster hunter series will enjoy this, you may however need to get the circle pad pro as the default camera controls are a bit of a struggle to use. The game's multiplayer is enjoyable and easy to operate, much like the gathering hall/tavern system of the previous games. Multiplayer is however only local, i was expecting to be able to connect with other hunters via WiFi when i first heard of the game but without a WiiU to connect to and host the game it's not possible to connect via the internet. Despite the multiplayer problem the game has good mechanics and is a fun challenging game to play, with many hours of content and is a game series i recommend to all my friends!
