I’ll be honest; I’m hell on canes. I’ve broken three so far, two of them in the last month. This one is possibly my favorite because of its height— I’m short and people tend to ignore it or keep walking at me expecting me to move, but this makes it a little easier to stand my ground from a distance — at which point I can’t see them anyway — and resume minding my own business. i learned with my first cane that it helps stabilize the cane if you knot the elastic tighter (tighten to your preference; I keep a clip on mine and knot it until only a small loop is left out), and in my opinion makes it easier to snap it out to unfold while also keeping it snug when folded up. After this experience, I’ll also be pulling the cane tip out and duct taping the hook closure, as this is how I have now broken/rendered two canes unusable. Being able to change your cane tips are great! Unless you, like me, are prone to chaos and clumsiness. Learn from my mistake. Grap a chopstick or other utensil, CAREFULLY!! pull the cane tip straight out, CAREFULLY!! insert the straight utensil into the elastic so that it does not recoil into the metal tubes, and wrap a thin strip of tape around the hook feature but ONLY IF YOU DON’T WANT TO CHANGE YOUR TIP. I don’t have a good idea for you in that case. Become highly religious would be my best guess, because I’d become God’s new best friend every time I had to try to swap out my cane tip. My husband has VERY low vision. He has a "stick" he keeps at home, but he wanted one to keep in our car! This 'stick" is perfect, a little longer than his home stick, but it he really likes it !
