Great follow-up to 'Handa's Surprise'.
I love this follow-up story about a little girl, Handa and her friend Akeyo, based in a Kenyan village.Simply written but, with gorgeous illustrations and content.Handa's Grandma has one black hen called Mondi, one morning Mondi can't be found anywhere so Handa goes off to search for her, accompanied by her friend Akeyo.Together the girls take a little counting journey (from 1-10) in amongst items and equipment from their village, as well as the native plants and habitats of smaller Kenyan wildlife, counting and describing each creature they encounter in their search for Mondi the hen.Mondi is of course, eventually found... with a happy, surprise ending.A gorgeous picture book by Eileen Brown, perfect for younger children, as a lovely introduction to a different country and environment and yet with a familiar theme.Goes perfectly as a partner to the classic 'Handa's Surprise'.

Lovely book for toddlers
Another lovely Handa book, with beautiful illustrations and a simple story about a search for a lost hen. This is my granddaughter's favourite book, and she loves the opportunities for counting out loud that it provides.
