My son needs a 2.5 reed size for a tenor sax. Will these work even though they say they’re for alto?

NO! The saxophone reeds for each voice of saxophone are different sizes, as are the mouthpieces.

Are these wood or plastic?

These are cane reeds, technically, but to give the answer you want, the reeds are wood. That being said, these reeds are the best quality for the price! You can spend more money on name brand reeds but at then of the day, the most important part of of the saxophone is the player!

Are these made in china or japan?

China is what I assumed, but honestly I never really considered it!

Are these only available in 2.5 strength?

No, I believe that all manufactured reeds are sold in various strengths. Most brands express hardness or strength numerically, usually starting at 2 and getting harder in increments of .5 There are a few that use soft, medium, hard ad very hard though.
