These are very good, strong magnets for this specific type of metal—if you're unsure whether an item is made of gold or gold-plated steel. It's a nice little gadget, and the holder is attracted to everything except gold and gold alloys.

So Far So Good…
These are so important to have! The CDC website (and others) have said not to have Silver or Gold Tone Metal touch your skin. The Cadmium (and even Lead, etc.) are in most cheap metals. I tried to find a way around it, but in the end my life is more important to me than buying, making, selling or wearing inexpensive jewelry. I got a lot of my jewelry making supplies out of my house and I hated it at first, like I said, but I am much happier now knowing at least that no one I love is wearing it. If they want something, I will make it for them free of charge. There’s a law in my state but right now, only for children, since it’s such a huge market it may not see the light of day for a long time, unfortunately. Children are more likely to put the jewelry in their mouths, so it’s really good that it is taken seriously. I have seen lots of jewelry making supplies say Stainless Steel now and much of it I have tested isn’t. It’s really good to have these metal testers (and some other types are worth it as well with these if needed) and they have worked well for me so far. Think about metals around you and having this is a good start. I feel better having these since I put one on my keychain and one in my room, so that way if I want to test something while I’m out I have one handy. I know it will continue to come in handy too.
