Sony FDR-AX33 4K Ultra HD Handycam with Exmor R CMOS sensor

I purchased this for creating videos for my YouTube channel and, although I haven't used all of the camera features, it does a great job. The picture quality is excellent, sharp with good colour and the image stabiliser works wonderfully. The sound is good from the built in microphone, though I do use external microphones when the need arises. As with most Sony products the build quality is superb, I would recommend getting a proper storage/carrying bag as it is a lot of money to drop on the floor! The touch screen is small, especially if you have hands the size of shovels like I do, but I found a small capacitive stylus to be very useful. I got one with a pen clip attachment which clips onto the camera hand strap. Overall it is a lot of money to pay, but I consider it worth the cost.

I had a problem with the first camcorder as the sd card slot was not working. It did not light up and the software could not detect media so I boxed it back up and followed instructions on the returns tab of Amazon next to the ordered item in my orders. It was delivered on Thursday, returned by Amazon Locker Friday and the replacement camcorder arrived on Saturday midday. That in my mind is excellent service from Amazon and I am really impressed with how little communication I needed to do. Amazon even apologised that I was inconvenienced by receiving a defective camera originally. Keep up the good work Amazon. The camcorder, excellent as I expected. I use SanDisk Extreme Pro 64gb 95mb/s SDXC 1 TYPE 3 CLASS 10. There is no stutter or recording problems on the 24 frame/sec and 100mb setting on the video when played back. everthing is on auto and the auto focus and BOSS work when I attach a HD gloxy PRO 5205 DIGITAL WIDE ANGLE LENS 0.5X, also no vignetting at the corners.

I love this camcorder! It really is as good as they say. Had preferred to shoot small budget films with full frame Canons but was increasingly finding myself looking for something like this and eventually took the plunge and purchased. It is absolutely perfect in every way. Fast start up (instant), fast focus, great zoom, the steadicam feature is pure wizardry, night mode, flip out screen with a very intuitive menu. I won't go anywhere without this now, it's so good. The only downsides, as I'm finding with all Soby camera equipment is the build quality. Even in a sealed case, dust gets inside the mechanical lens cover easily and after three months every day usage it is now delayed each time I turn it on while the lens cover registers the screen open switch on. This is disappointing as I'm not sure how to clean it properly or get the dust out and for a very expensive little piece of equipment, I wish there were an optional screw on cover to double the protection at the front end. Hoping it can be cleaned and restored to its former glory asap.

I spent ages deciding which Camcorder to buy. I read reviews, watched YouTube videos, went on review sites and eventually plumped for the FDR-AX33BDI Ultra HD 4K. Boy am I glad I did! An excellent Camcorder all round. I previously had a Panasonic with 3 CCDs and a Leica lens. I bought that 10 years ago and it has always been a fantastic camcorder and people always commented on the colours and general high quality of my videos... My new Sony FDR-AX33 is head and shoulders better. I videoed my grandson and there was a newspaper near him and you could read the print! You can download Sony PlayMemories Home for free when you buy the Camcorder and that allows you to edit your video then burn to DVDs and Blue Ray disks. I was thrilled with the quality of the disks I produced. If I sound like I like the Camcorder it's because I do. It's amazing. The only problem for me which is NO fault of the Camcorder is that I now need to upgrade my computer to be able to handle video editing faster. It does require a lot of processing power and RAM to make it easy. My computer is getting old so here's a great excuse to buy a new one! Happy shopping folks. I also got £100 cash back and that continues until the end of January 2016. I do see however the cost of the Camcorder just went up from £749 to £799. Still a bargain with the cash back though.

This Sony FDR-AX33 is cheap so, don't be too excited. At first, this camera is good for starters. It has a simple menu. The touchscreen could be a little bit bigger and sony should add a joystick as well for faster handling. It has good battery life. The video is colorful and sharp... but it was an absolute disappointment when you use it in darker places. The video became very noisy and blurry. I guess the reason is that small sensor. Still, for an average commoner, it does its job. And one more thing. The European version doesn't support videos in 30p videos (only 24/25) in 4k and 60p (only 50) in Full HD 1080.

Bought this camcorder to add to my Panasonic HC-VX870 which has been an amazing camcorder. First thing I noticed about The AX33 footage is that the picture rocks very slightly horizontally but it is so noticeable that I cant use the footage.I have not had a clear answer from sony

Firstly let me say I have had several camcorders prior to purchasing this item. Having said that I have found the Sony FDRX33 the most difficult to understand. The accompanying printed manual is so basic that it is virtually useless. Having spent hours experimenting and looking on_line I am not much further forward. My main concern is the focus. I cannot achieve a decent focus in automatic or manual mode. This problem persists when shooting video and still images. There are various other problems e.g. dynamic contrast; but I can adjust this with editing software. Having viewed 4K footage taken with this camera and HD footage with my old camcorder I am not yet convinced that there is any improvement! Good points are the stability and night shooting facilities which are very good.

I wanted this camcorder to take on holiday the day after the stated delivery date. Well done Amazon seller,it arrived on time, well-packaged to give confidence it would survive the delivery. This 4K videocam replaced a well-used and loved 11-year old Sony handy cam which was then bought at twice the price of the FDR-AX33. Good news! the new one can be set up in a virtually identical way to the old one. The only tricky thing was the setting of the viewfinder focus with the little serrated "knob" on the side of the viewfinder. In use, the slighter lower weight and narrower width was helpful in carrying it around in my sac-a-main. The results shown in the holiday videos edited on Magix software were stunning. The quality was of 4K videos was up to what you see on the best UHDR television channels and therefore stunning. I will have to sort out what seems to be higher wind noise than my previous videpcam - a piece of foam stuck to the microphone did seem to help then. Be prepared for the size of the processing task which needs a fast computer. Also be prepared for the size of the videos - a 70-minute video used 30Gb of memory and took around 12 hours to render and export as 4K. Exporting the same video as HD took, I think, slightly less time but still used 30 Gb. Overall a fantastic piece of kit.
