Really REALLY love this way of eating! Would give it 10 stars if I could :)
I followed Harley's book, beginning 2009, and had a fair degree of success with it losing24lbs in 26 weeks. My picture was even shown on one of his infomercials.Fast forward to 2021. My weight had skyrocketed and I was extremely unhealthy. After dire warnings from my doctor about high blood pressure, pre-diabetes etc. I resolved to do something about it. I began Five Factor again on May 3, 2021. Because I am SO much older now (age 64) I decided to up the exercise quotient and purchased The Firm DVD's, which are mostly 45 min workouts, some with weights. I also kept a journal of what I did and ate each day, and bought myself a Fitbit.Far and away, the biggest problem for me is that I hate cooking with a passion! The only way I could do this was cooking in stages, from my kitchen that is right in front of the TV. I made batches of meals and froze them. That way, I only needed to do it once a week, and the meals are SO simple, with 5 ingredients or less, even I could make them :).I also promised myself that I would only weigh and measure once a month. On May 3rd, Start Date, I weighed: 197lbs and measured 46.5"-42"-44. Today, I weigh: 161lbs and measure: 42.5"-37"-40". I've gone from an XL to a L and even a M in some things. I look and feel SO MUCH BETTER. This is honestly one of the best things I've ever done for myself. I can see myself losing about another 10lbs, but it is slowing down quite a bit now.I have to say, too, that the meals taste SO much better than they sound. I also look forward to my "Free" day too. I don't deny or skimp, but often my eyes are bigger than my belly and I just can't eat as much as I think I want on that day. If you're on the fence, give it a try. I even went through Thanksgiving and Christmas without putting on any weight - well 2lbs over a 1 week Christmas vacation in New Orleans, but I was able to get that off in just a few days, once home.Give it a go. You won't be sorry. I honestly can't say enough good things.

Anyone can follow Harley's 5-Factor Diet
I bought the 5-Factor diet book after skimming through one that one of my co-workers had. The first part of the book tells about how Harley came up with the diet and exercises. There really isn't a lot of reading - most of the book is meal recipes and exercises. The meals are quick and easy to prepare - and unlike a review I read by someone else - the food is NOT expensive to purchase. It is also easy to find at your neighborhood grocer's. Anyone who thinks this food is expensive must not be eating any kind of healthy, because for the most part I find that junk food and over-processed already-prepared generic-brand meals are cheaper than eating healthy. However, I also find that when I am eating healthy, I don't need as much to eat - I'm satisfied with less. Although I could live forever following Harley's meal plan, I backslid from healthy eating when I remarried a couple of years ago. I knew Harley's eating plan would get me back on track, but I couldn't find my book. So I bought another one. I would recommend this diet to anyone wanting to eat healthier or lose weight. Be sure to read the chapters before starting in on the meals - it is very important and inspiring, and it will help you understand the reasoning of what foods you are eating. I think he is right on track. It's not a quick-hurry-up short-term diet - you can live with it.

Great eating plan, more than 5 minutes to prep though.
I am really enjoying the food. He absolutely does NOT skimp on flavor and textures. I get plenty to eat. It eliminates cravings. I feel very good on it. Plenty of energy. When you use a variety of the menus, it is well balanced in fruit and vegetable intake.I love that he has 5 weeks of menus all written out in a chapter. If you do not want to choose your own meals for the day, simply go there and it will suggest 5 recipes for the day.I do wish he had put the nutritional information on each menu plan in, but after figuring them myself, I know what it is and it's all pretty balanced and routine for each day in that respect. It does take me more than 5 minutes to prepare my meals - only reason I did not give it 5 stars, as that is what he says on the book cover. I am sure he can do that, being very familiar with it. There are some recipes that can be done this quickly and I suggest that you find those, use them when you will not have time, and then enjoy preparing your meals as any normal person would on the rest. Also, as I become more familiar with the recipes, as doubtless Pasternak is, they will go much more quickly. I'm still transitioning over and trying to prepare two different meals for my family. It is not a cheap diet. No diet that includes whole, healthy foods is going to be, unless you are starving yourself. But again, there are varying recipes concerning ingredient costs. The cheapest foods are white processed flours and sugars. Those are not included in this plan. For those who feel he's no different than anyone else, I can only say they must not have really studied up on the intricacies of each diet, but simply overviewed them in a general fashion. There are differences that are plain to me, and that is what makes each one of these ways of approaching the diet unique.I have seen some people comment on the lack of portion control in his book. I personally believe this is an irrelevant complaint as, so far, all the menus for entire days come up to only approximately 1400 calories per person. That, in combination with a sensible exercise program is a perfect amount for healthful living. The portions are often quite large, as the food is not laden with sugars and refined flours, which make up the bulk of most foods people choose to eat today. If it were not for those two things, food portions would not be an issue. You can eat nearly as much of a well balanced, whole foods diet as you like. You will not likely gain weight if you are active.Yes, anyone can eat this way and lose weight, without Pasternak. I am sure he would agree with you. The problem that people today have is sticking with something because it is just so darn easy to fall into bad eating patterns with our lifestyles and the availability of easy, but unnatural food sources. A book such as this gives you a peer group to align yourself with, a cheerleader to encourage you, a spelled out plan to help you remain focused, and - above all - a shopping list, menus and recipes to make it all much easier.

Non mi è piaciuto
Ho acquistato la versione Kindle, il libro è interamente in Inglese quindi per chi è interessato e non ne capisce molto dovrà fare tradizione pagina per pagina, comunque nel complesso mi aspettavo di più.

A diet as a diet should be
This diet is created by a guy who knows the human body well. He is saying nothing new. It's what doctors and nutritionists have been preaching all along. This is an ideal diet. It is the way we should eat to maintain a healthy lifestyle. There are no gimmicks or magic recipes. Just a healthy balanced diet with carbs, meat and fat, a diet as a diet should be. That's all. So all those who are looking for something exceptional to get a leaner body in a few weeks look elsewhere. I have tried many fad diets and none of them work long term. You lose weight as soon as you start, crave the food you can't eat badly, stop after a few weeks as soon as you see the weight dropping off and start eating to food you have been deprived again, gaining not just what you have lost but even more. With this diet it is different - you end up craving the diet on cheat day, the day on which you can eat what you want. I always looked around for a balanced diet, a diet for life where you can eat varied things including carbs, that is I wanted a diet which was based around the food pyramid and here is the answer I have been looking for. The only downside is that is doesn't take just 5 weeks to lose the weight it takes much more and to maintain the ideal weight you have to keep on the diet. But you would be so satisfied and informed that you would start to look forward to keeping on it. The recipes are very helpful and easy to make and take just around half an hour and less for a meal (dinner) to be on the table which for me is very ideal. Some snacks take even less time, even less than five minutes. Ingredients are not hard to find and I do not live in the UK, but on a very small island in Europe where the market is much more limited than the UK. Apart from that they are really tasty. Finally I have found a diet which has taught me how to eat, where I still enjoy most of the food around me and I can still go to a restaurant and enjoy food with friends. I would gladly recommend it to all those people who want to live healthy lifestyles! Enjoy.
