Skip the hardware stores, this is superior PTFE tape
I have three different hardware store PTFE brands lying around in my garage, and they all say they're 0.075mm in thickness. I verified this by using a digital caliper, and with found that was correct. I used that same caliper to measure the thickness of this cable-tex "high density" stuff. 0.2mm Wow. As you can imagine, this PTFE tape doesn't tear nearly as easy as the 0.075mm stuff, and also means you don't have to keep wrapping round loads of times.
