Replaced old part perfectly
Used to replace the Optima 49 version. The two parts of interchangeable. Our Optima 49 gasket failed cause the toilet to run. When removing the old part some of the clips broke off as were brittle. I liked the look of the push connection by wire so upgraded the old model to this. Fitted perfectly to the old cage in the bottom of the cistern. Took literally 5 minutes to fit. Great upgrade and was half the price buying here compared to the local plumbing centre.

Good replacement
Easy to fit in a very confined space. A lot cheaper than calling out the plumber. Website provides fitting videos which helped a lot.

Well engineered, no tools required to change lifed items.
Bought to replace a failed similar item from another firm. To remove the cistern cover required the buttons to be prised out and a plastic screw to be undone. A design blunder not present in this item. Visual inspection shows it is well engineered using good materials. Can see no reason why it should not have a long trouble free service life.. No tools needed for normal servicing, hence well deserved five stars. But black marks too. The printed instructions are inadequate. But see optima 50-49 on youtube. It runs for approx 15.5 minutes. However it is best to cut the overflow pipe with a sharp knife which leaves a clean cut. Before reinstalling the cistern stand it on a suitable bowl or bucket, put some water in the cistern and check for leaks. Also ensure that when the overflow pipe lifts on flushing that it cannot hit the bottom of the cable/button assembly. A very generous two stars for the printed instructions. I contacted siamp via their website contact form. My message was confirmed as sent, but I never got a reply. Big black mark and no stars for customer service.I contacted18 months on. Working fault free, no problems have arisen.

Easy to fit and relatively low cost but …….
Key fact - these are supposed to come with a 10 year guarantee but there is no where to register the guarantee so how do you prove the age of old unit if it fails within 10 years? Did you keep the receipt? Did your plumber give you a receipt for the flush unit?I have now had to replace this flush for a third time in - 12 years. They fail every time where the flush cable attaches to the side of the flush tube, one of the two small (weak) plastic lugs that hold the cable in place breaks off and the cable comes away. It’s a design fault that needs addressing ( add a bit more strength here Siamp - easy fix during manufacturing)The unit is easy to swap- 1/4 turn anti-clockwise ( like an old lightbulb) and off it comes. The new one fits in the same way - easy.If Siamp could fix the design fault or sort out the so called “10 year guarantee” then this would get 5 stars but until these things are fixed it gets only 3 stars because you may find yourself replacing this flush unit every 5 years or so.

Easily fitted and replaces the the 49 too
Replaced the very old 49 version easily. Glad they have kept fittings etc. All consistent over the years. For reference the new 50 replaces the 49 version easily the button can be proud or surface . You don't need to replace the pan fitting the main unit unscrews and is a straightforward replacement into pan coupling. Really pleased as button and seal had both broken. easily fixed myself. Would say 50 more reliable than the 49 button mechanism and worth 3 pounds more.

Does what is required although cable was shorter
These are very much made from plastic but in terms of replacing an old one exactly the same it is ideal. Twist off the old one and twist in the new one. Simple. My only problem has been the cable length to the actual button. I needed a shorter 30cm cable so ordered that separately as the one ordered indicated it came with a 40cm plus cable. When it arrived the cable was the shorter one anyway. Didn’t matter as it happens as used the extra one on the next one that broke. Personally I would prefer a more substantial method of flush but you can’t beat this if you want to replace a broken or worn out old one.
