works as well as the beds in the hospital
This bed was a godsend. My mother needed it right away and it delivered within three days of ordering it. And a great price for such a sturdy piece of equipment that was selling for $200 more somewhere else. This was a package deal so it came with the mattress. Very good and well worth it. Easy to assemble except it takes strength to attach the motor to the bed frame. It uses a manual crank to raise and lower the bed frame but electric for raising the head and foot parts. Heavy duty but not overwhelming.

The idea that I can lay on a bed that raises the head and feet and not be in a hospital setting, is wonderful.
We love these beds. Bought 2 of them in 2014. I assembled them by myself and was satisfied that it wasn't too difficult to assembled but for customers who are not as strong as I am, I suggest that another person help as these beds are a little heavy to pickup and move around. My only complaint at this time Jan 2018, is that I am having a little difficultly trying to find someone to repair this bed. Something popped at the head spring and now I can't raised the head anymore. Before buying, make sure there will be service support after the warranty is over. I will update this review later.

invacare semi electric bed
I bought this bed for my wife who has limited mobility and considerable back pain. I have had this bed for approximately 4 months and it has proved to be sturdy and dependable. assembly was not difficult, but required two people. The only problem was the connection of the activation rod between the two ends of the bed. The directions did not state that the rod was to be connected on the top connector on one end and the bottom connector on the other end. without doing this the ends do not adjust properly. The only other problem I had was that the bed did not lower sufficiently for my wife to get in bed comfortably (she is 5 foot 2 in. tall).I therefor had to remove the wheels to lower the bed and install some sliding casters to move the bed on. this works very good.I have not used the rails, but they do seem very short to provide protection from rolling out of bed. the rails are not the ones shown on the picture. The height of the bed is the only reason i did not rate this bed 5 stars. Oh, the mattress is a plastic coated material for water resistance and seems fairly comfortable.

Ugly, No Instructions, FAKE MATTRESS
Almost died trying to put it together and it's still not working - and there were NO INSTRUCTIONS that came with the bed! Found some online but wrong model, it was a long night and the bed is so ugly you can't even imagine. The Mattress pictured is NOT what comes with it - you will need to buy TWO MATTRESS TOPPERS XL TWIN in order to get anywhere near the comfort for your loved one that they need, otherwise you can feel the springs. The picture is dishonest and not close to accurate as to the thickness of the mattress. Once again, shady product, shady picture, and a lot of money.

Mattress is not comfortable
We bought this for my 89 year old Dad (in lieu of a twin bed) to sleep next to my 84 yr old mom who does use & need the features of a hospital bed (her bed was provided by her health care provider). First night my Dad complained of the poor quality of the mattress so we bought him a 3" memory foam mattress topper and he is very happy with it.

They could have done better with the same effort.
The bed itself is fine: the mattress, the size, the quietness of the motors; however, the manual mechanism--the long bar that goes from the foot of the bed to the head--to raise and lower the whole bed could not be installed: the holes to adjust it are either too short or too long. I had to drill an extra hole to match. Also, the instructions are too simple and generalized. They are for all the models and it helped a lot that I am an engineer. What about a professionally produced video for YouTube?

School purchase
I purchased 2 of these beds for a school nursing assistant class. Amazon had the best prices for my limited budget. The bed has held up to a lot of student use for training purposes and I would recommend for training or home care. The headboard is very low and the side rails are the "old fashioned" kind, but it works well for my needs. The electric raise/lower is somewhat slow, but the cord is long enough to sit on either side. I expect this to last many years with much wear and tear from classroom training.

I bought this bed for my aunt and returned it ...
I bought this bed for my aunt and returned it immediately for 2 reasons: 1)The bed has half rails, not full rails as described and 2) no manual crank to move the bed up and down as described. More importantly, the return process through Invacare was cumbersome with a lot of red tapes, many delays that required my follow-up via emails and phone call. Invacare MUST modify the descriptions of the bed on Amazon to be accurate as I saw many other previous comments referring to "half rails versus full rails."
