Fantastic coffee maker
I bought this just before Christmas so it's been in constant use for the last 3 1/2 months. I've been through many different coffee makers over the years and for my particular tastes this is the best. No, it won't make you an espresso but if the thing you are after is the best 'long' coffee you can get then I think this device takes some beating. It gives the depth of flavour of a French press except without the sludgey bits - very clean and zingy. It's marginally slower to use than a French press but much quicker than a filter machine and I think the results are far superior. When I use it, I actually boil the kettle and put boiling water straight into the bottom jug. I then put the coffee-loaded upper funnel into the bottom jug and turn the gas on. The water immediately rises into the top jug and starts bubbling. I (carefully, it's top heavy!!) give the brewing coffee a stir then I turn the heat down as low as it'll go and give it exactly 3 minutes. At that point, it's off with the heat and remove the jug to a heatproof trivet. A minute or so later, you're good to remove the top funnel and drink. From the point the kettle boils, it takes you less than 5 mins to have perfect coffee. Using this method, it's repeatable, sludge-free and (for my taste) perfectly brewed. I found the timings a little erratic if I just stuck it on the gas with cold water and of course this method takes longer / uses more energy - the kettle is more efficient :) It's very simple to clean but of course as it's a whole load of glass the clumsy need not apply! Not a cheap item to drop.... In all, I love it - it was around £45 when I bought it and it seems to have now gone up unfortunately..... Still worth it if you like coffee IMO.

Interesting way of brewing coffee
I can't say it's my favourite coffee brewing device, but it's certainly the most eye catching I've seen. I use it mostly when I have guests and want to impress them and also to brew a lot of coffee at once. It does a good job in brewing coffee, but as usual, the quality of the cup depends on the beans-roast-grind-water quality. The price is good for a syphon and since you can use it on the stove (with a heat diffuser), it's also easy to use. Cleaning it might be a bit tricky if you want it cristal clear, but you can get away by only running water in it. Being all glass and quite big it requires extra attention when handling it, so you need to be careful when using it.

Does what it says but espresso makers get more flavour.
Good quality, easy to clean, easy to use. Makes coffee. I've bought a glass coffee maker as I was getting concerned about the toxins and chemicals displaced from the rusty solder and lead beads in the metal espresso makers. None of that worry with glass components, so that's a big plus for me. Slight down side is that the process doesn't get all the flavour out of two scoops like the espresso makers so you end up using more coffee. I have also started to let the filter process occur twice so as to get more flavour. It also percolates quite easily at a warm temperature rather than hot so you will find it useful to keep it on the heat and/or heat it twice. Instructions DO recommend the use of a heat diffuser, I bought one and it works very well.

Fun and dramatic
This is a very visual coffee maker! Excellent for use on a spirit burner on the center of the table. Will make 4-5 decent sized cups of coffee at a time and produces quite a nice brew so long as you don't let it boil for too long.

Delicate materials, be warned.
Bought this in June 2018 and cracked November 2018. Both sections of this glass coffee maker are very thin and washing them is a gamble. I have been extremely careful and the last time I cleaned it, I tapped the top edge of the upper body funnel against the sink tap and "tink" I knew it was cracked. It was the slightest of taps but rendered the whole contraption useless, it is by far the flimsiest design I have come across, the glass is so thin you can feel its delicacy when taken out of the box. It makes for very good coffee but I have gone on ebay and bought an original designed by Cona from the 70's and it feels definitely stronger and its plainly made of thicker glass. Bodum and every other maker of this design has copied Cona's but even though the process is exactly the same, I find that I have to simmer slightly longer (5 secs) and bubble the water up into the top to allow the vacuum to build up enough to allow all the coffee to return to the base jug. If you want originality, try and buy an original glass stopper, but the flat, plastic filter from the bodum fits and does just a slightly better job. For the price, an original can be cheaper and last a heck of a lot longer than a bodum, why ? is still a mystery as the glass in the bodum is practically such a design flaw as to be criminal in my opinion, its never going to last, I'm not sure if this is a more modern, late design and some older versions may be better but a small crack has wasted £40 because of cost cutting & profit making, sign of the times really.

Love it but breaks easily and no spare parts available
I love this coffeemaker but it breaks very easily. Have purchased it now 6 times over already and decided to give it a little break until the price drops again. It would be good if Bodum would offer spare parts so when it breaks, which it does easily, a spare part can be purchased instead of having to buy the whole set again I have also had the electric Bodum siphon which works fine as well, but the jug became very dirty inside and it was not possible to clean it properly. I got rid of it for hygiene purposes. I love the siphon coffee maker just not the fragility.

Not as strong as hoped
The coffee made wasn’t too shabby (depending on the beans obviously) but after about two week’s worth of use I was very disappointed when a change in pressure while using it caused the glass to sort of implode and crack. Luckily not dramatically, but certainly more than you would want if you wanted to make coffee with it. Amazon sorted out returns well, but bodum’s after care left much to be desired

Superbe !

We love this maker as it is a conversation piece when people come over. It makes a good amount in one go and we've found a shortcut which means we can get a full 8 cup brew in 5 mins . This is a second one as we smashed the first and didn't want to go back to what we had before or use these new plunger things. We couldn't find it in the shops, so thank goodness for amazon. The package was delivered on time with no fuss nor damage. So YES we recommend this product as it makes a large volume of good tasting coffee and sets the house alight with the smell.

Caffettiera ottima.
