Great design, amazing to read out loud, funny and yet deep.
Ha! this is a really quirky book. Funny, with big pictures, animals, and a open odd ending... It's already a favorite of ours for bedtime, and nap time, and reading time and play time: you got, it's always requested. The design is really nice and interesting, and the story can be a start for a deep conversation with children.. A bear has lost his hat, and goes searching for it. (if you want to know the end, read the last line of this review)* This is the first book of the Klassen "Hat" trilogy ( This Is Not My Hat - We Found a Hat ), and in my opinion, this is the best one. Klassen style is really lovely: he uses simple lines, and the characters aren't over design, yet it's so catching and unique. There are pages with just 2 animals watching at each others, without text, and they're super funny. Reading it out loud is so easy: there are repetitions, there are various characters so you can make different voices, there are no over stressed or pompous words. You can even read it with a dim light 'cause the text is quite big (I'd say at least a 26/28 font) If your child like some specific animals, here we have: bear, fox, frog, moose, turtle, rabbit, squirrel, snake and what I believe being and armadillo. *(spoiler: the rabbit stole the hat, and he's getting eaten for this).

Fantastic story
I ordered this story to use with my Year 1 class (5-6 year olds). I read it to my daughter first (4 year old) she absolutely loved it! It has went down well with all of the children! Looking at the rest of the books by this author now!

Witty and classic
Can’t work out if I enjoy this more than my friend’s child, but she loves it too, and shouts “I want my hat back!” at the wrong times. Beautifully illustrated.

Really enjoyale
This is a great short story for when you have a very tired child or very limited time. It is humourous and would be great for a young child to teach them names for different animals. I did however have to explain the joke to my husband - once he got it, he read it much better. My 4 year old got it pretty much instantly! I was quite surprised that he took to it so much as it is such a simple plot line, but he keeps telling the childminder all about it, so it obviously made a mark.
