PACK OF 60 (2 PACKS OF 30 COLLARS) Vitax Cabbage Collars protect cabbages and brassicas from Cabbage Root Fly. They are simple, efficient and non-chemical, and completely biodegradable. The Cabbage Root Fly can be a serious pest for brassicas. The adult fly lays her eggs by the base of newly planted-out brassicas. When the eggs hatch the maggots burrow into the stems and roots to eat them, killing or severely weakening the plant. Vitax Cabbage Collars work by preventing the adult fly from laying eggs near the base of the plant. The disks are pushed apart as the cabbage grow without harming the stem. Will definitely be stocking up for next year as not one cabbage has been attacked.

Really save veg plants from root fly and deter slugs etc
As an avid gardener living in a limestone pavement area, snails and slugs are No 1 enemy to my lovely organic vegetables etc. The rough surface of these collars helps stops them getting close enough to climb up the stems and munch! It also prevents root fly infestation which devastates your crop and the main reason for buying them. Good value and easy to reuse following seasons etc. I couldn’t find them on the high street in the big ‘ outdoor garden type stores so pleased to find them here.

How to fit the collars
The product is sturdy but small and does not easily open. Fitting the collar around a brassica risks damaging the stem. The collar is just too firm. A possible way round the problem might be to soak the collar first before trying to fit it. The collar will only fit thin stems so needs to be used as early as possible.

Doesn't deter slugs and and snails
Easy to use product that I hope will protect my plants from saw-worms, and also stop the soil from drying out directly under the plant. Unfortunately slugs and snails still access the plants so need to buy some copper wire to wrap around them too.

Great item. Do just what they are supposed to. Have tried many ways to prevent the slugs stealing my produce and these are the first things that seem to have worked! Definitely worth a try, especially at this price!

They do the job.
I use these in my allotment, and have done for quite a few years now. They do the job and keep the slugs and snails off the brassicas, etc. Money well spent.
