Sally Wainwright's multi-BAFTA award winning gritty crime drama returns for its final instalment, with Sarah Lancashire, James Norton and Siobhan Finneran reprising their roles. When Catherine discovers the remains of a gangland murder victim in a drained reservoir, it sparks a chain of events that unwittingly leads her straight back to Tommy Lee Royce. Her grandson Ryan is now 16 and still living with Catherine, but he has ideas of his own about what kind of relationship he wants to have with the man Catherine refuses to acknowledge as his father. Still battling the seemingly never-ending problem of drugs in the valley and those who supply them, Catherine is on the cusp of retirement. Gritty but with humour
Not only a tour de force from SarahaLancashire, but a gripping story which tells the story of a family over twenty years. It is not just the usual cops and robbers, it goes far beyond "crime drama". This will become an enduring classic for lovers of gripping drama.

Top Telly! Fact!
In series three (as series one and two) of [the ironically titled] 'Happy Valley' Sally Wainwright gives a masterclass in scriptwriting. The drama, the [clever] use of humour, the raw emotional narrative, the criminal content, the grit, the twists and turns, and the (I can barely cope!) against the clock tension make this one of the best TV series of all time.Sarah Lancashire gives a magnificent performance as Catherine Cawood and heads a talented cast; including Siobhan Finneran, James Norton, and (new comer to the franchise) Mark Stanley. The only disappoinment, SPOILERS, is that Charlie Murphy and Karl Davies are criminally underused in series three.Still, the ending is a delicious reminder that thorough research and reality over sensationalism makes for stronger viewing.โ๏ธ๐งก

An Appropriate final season.
Now resident in the USA, I now have all the Happy Valley series (aka Grim Britannia). Much has appeared about the quality of this drama and the acting. The final season did not disappoint revealing that quality television I remember before I left is still possible in the U.K. Sarah Lancashire reveals herself as one of the UK's most important acting talent on the small screen, he supporting cast were excellent and believable making the series resemble its national location: pessimistic but containing seeds of hope.
