Wow! Absolutely fantastic and so easy to use! Made my job so much easier and faster. I'm female and 5ft and I've just saved myself £100's. I was able to cut everything up so well that it all fit in my green bin and there is still some space. Handles bigger branches with ease with the rachet mechanism. I wish I had got this months ago. As someone who does a lot of hedge work, I needed some loppers that were robust and weren’t going to let me down. They arrived and I was pleasantly surprised at how sturdy they were. The handles are also extendable giving you much more reach when trimming. The blade is also super sharp and makes cutting a breeze. The ratchet system on it is also brilliant. If you’re cutting a thicker branch, you can ratchet the handles open and shut to create more leverage which makes cutting a lot easier. They are on the heavier side which, if you’re someone like me who wants that robustness and can handle the extra weight, I highly recommend them. If you’re maybe a bit older and have to do work higher up where you’re holding them for a sustained period, maybe go for something lighter. For £24 I highly recommend them as they’re Spear & Jackson so you’re getting quality for the price of some own brand versions from popular hardware shops.

I have owned a pair of these loppers for 2 years and used them to prune live and dead branches and saplings up to 1 Inch or so in diameter. They are very sharp, easy to use and lightweight - as well as good looking! However the aluminium handles with their twist end lock could be improved. I managed to bend the inner handle of one arm after several months of use preventing the lopper handle from extending as the inner and outer handle were now jammed together. The twist lock is also not too effective and often would slip allowing the inner to drop back into the outer sleeve when using the loopers in handle extended mode. Although I continued to use the loppers in the unextended mode for another 18 months, eventually the metal which extends from the aluminium handle and then becomes the cutting jaw fractured and the nut/bolt assembly which allows the ratchet to function in cutting mode broke and fell out rendering the loppers useless. As I was about to throw them away I remembered that I bought these loppers specifically because they had a 10 YEAR GUARANTEE - so I contacted Amazon and sure enough I received a replacement set in the post in a few days! The replacement set of loppers lasted 2 years of moderate use before the metal which extends into the handle sheared (again) while in use. I contacted Amazon who refused to replace the item but suggested I contact Spear & Jackson - which I did and received a replacement set a week later! I should also add that they performed as well as or better than the other loppers I have owned, so I do recommend them despite the fact I managed to break them after 2 years of use - now on 2 occasions! At least I have had them replaced FoC each time under guarantee.
