Little Book of Growing Up

Shallow and disturbing
There were so many positive reviews for this book I didn’t go looking for the negative ones...I definitely should have as this book is AWFUL. It’s all about growing up from a looks-obsessed shallow perspective. ‘Get ready to be gorgeous’ = puberty, turning from a ‘plain’ girl to a gorgeous one, and don’t get me started on ‘becoming a babe’ and ‘looking even better in your jeans’. Dreadful stuff. Going straight back to Amazon.

Pitched right for 8-9 year olds
Researched so many of these books and found many were pitched for an older child. My daughter is 8 and I read through this and feel comfortable with giving it to her in the coming months. Well written with simple explanations... not too much on the “sex” subject but more about changing body. What I like is the “positive spin” it gives so hopefully the reader won’t find it scary or daunting. The book tackles each subject with a short paragraph or two which I liked.

Great little book. Accurate and factual
I ordered 3 different books and this was my fave by far. It’s tbh e perfect introduction to puberty and ideal for my 9yo who is a little slow on the reading. The short pages and lack of pictures covey a serious message in a lighthearted way. I need the basic facts about periods and hormones and body changes without the details on sex and drugs and graphics that some other books include. I needed an easy way for her to approach the subject and not be overwhelmed with information. It’s actually given her confidence and she has said she’s happy with what it’s told her and has said she will ask us questions as she thinks of them.I was thoroughly impressed with the size and layout and I’d definitely recommend it.

Informative and helpful
This was sent to the amazon locker. I had trouble retrieving it. I called amazon they helped me receive item. My daughter is 8 and very innocent. I felt like it is too soon to give her. However she has recently started puberty so I wanted to prepare her without overwhelming her and making her grow up too soon. We read the first few pages together and she can read it in her own time. They tell it in a really exciting way so young children can engage. Would definetly reccomend this book as it helps parents to teach children without making them scared or overwhelmed

great book for parents snd child to share
this book is so helpful to mum and child. I didn't want to send my daughter away with a book without spending time with her to talk about changes in her body/moods etc. we chatted about the changes that were/will be happening and I used the book alongside snd made reference to certain pages which we looked at together. my daughter has taken this book away and read this cover to cover and dips back into it when I think sometimes her mood chsnges/feels emotional and it reassures her it's ok to feel this way. some of my friends have looked at this for their daughters and have gone ahead and bought it. covers puberty periods body changes moods but not sex so a great book for the first stages of growing up
